Love the puppy. That ole 8n is a work horse. Use to pull two full wagon loads of hay to the barn. Many uses for it. Take your time now. It will pay off in the end. Love this video. I am a new subscriber.

Yep rings are cheap. Just use an honing stone with your drill and new rings are easy to install. Will improve your compression as well as your oil control. I'm 75 yrs old and farmed a dairy farm with these tractors and rebuilt them back in the day as well.

instead of spending a lot of money on concrete you can always use a 3/4 piece of plywood. Clutch and pressure plate look good as long as it is not oil soaked. You are doing this one the correct way, Great Video of my favorite child hood tractor.

I bought a 1952 8n in 2000 to help maintain some land i bought. The 3 point would drop every time you pushed the clutch in. I rebuilt the lift and had to put a pressure plate in about 3 years after i got it. That's about all I've had to do to it. I've done a lot of work with it. My son bought a finish mower and has been mowing his 3.5 acres for the last 3 years with it. They are limited in what they can do but for the money imo are worth it. Mine will still start on the first crank even tho i don't get to see mine much anymore. I hope you get as much pleasure out yours as i have mine.

I hope you go ahead and have the valves done. You have the engine torn down to the block. Grind the valves and check the valve guides. Have the surfaces refaced and all of the water channels cleaned. Basically have the bock boiled and cleaned in a machine shop and finish it correctly. You have gone this far, it only makes sense to finish it all. Love to see old engines brought back to life. Good series!!

9N and 8N tractors after sitting for several months or in your case several years lose oil pressure due to a vacuum that sets up between the oil pickup valve and the pump. Two solutions: 1. using a hand pump, pump air through the opening where the oil line from the engine to the oil filter connects. solution 2. Pour 90 weight oil down the same opening and crank the engine ....both solutions will work if the oil pump works as it should. Of course if the oil pump can be bad and neither of these actions will work. Taking the oil pan off is a chore...

I feel you should always replace the clutch while you have the engine apart, the material is contaminated with oil and almost on the brass connecting pins. Nigel Royal Navy Old stoker retired

Sorry I have to f/forward on the head banging music. One of my 8ns is needing an overhaul. Soon as I get room in the garage. lol The clutch disc is usually good until you get near the rivets . Keep any half decent parts on the shelf and label them.

Although this is 2 yrs old, I would have replaced the throughout bearing and piston rings as piece of mind. Also should have pulled the valves before pressure washing.

I would replace the front trans seal, a lot of your oil could be coming from there, 4 bolts! easy.

Definitely replace the clutch while you are in there and for the throwout bearing even though it might not have any play just to save yourself from having to do it in the future nearly

@@The_Home_Pros nicely done btw, just for kicks I'd paint the tractor after I was done with it too after pretty much doing a complete rebuild anyways.. On a side not, the oil pump didn't look bad to me with only a tiny bit of play in it. Make sure the pressure tube at the junction is clear which might had been a big part of your problem but im sure you checked that so nice job anyways.

yes I do plan on painting the tractor if I continue the series past part 4 it will prob be in part 6. thanks for the info but I did check the pressure tube and the whole system was clear, the pump had wore out gears, bushings..ect and wouldn’t prime unless forced to, hopefully this fixes the problem! thanks for watching!!

I always go back to make sure and redo so that way there is no worry about an incorrect installation, no matter how slightly off.

Hello there really enjoyed the video it’s actually relaxing watching someone else do all the dirty work of cleaning parts. I had to chuckle when I saw you take off the fly wheel but I am just glad no one got hurt.😀One comment I had was you didn’t show that crankshaft journals and there condition I have my 51 Ford 8N apart and the bearings were bad the oil pump was bad the pistons rings sleeves oil pump are all bad but I will have to take my crankshaft to get it ground, was your crankshaft good? I will be waiting for the next part of the series! Sure can get expensive fast in a hurry but they are a good investment 🇨🇦😀

Parts is parts. That is a lot of loose parts floating around. I usually have a few parts left over when done. Part 5 really should be you putting it on a trailer and giving it to me. Haha. Love those Ford tractors. Thanks for the video. I hope you do put in a new clutch disc, pressure plate and throw out bearing as long as you have it down that far.

New viewer, what were you thinking (28:40) tightening down the conrod bearing without a torque wrench and then deciding it was ok. How can you possibly decide it's ok when not torqued down. If you use pliers or wrenches ,it’s yours ,use a crescent hammer ,pizza pan ,heat gum . It’s yours . Period . Nice rebuilding!

your name has got me. what is it exactly your a pro at? Ive got to believe you have never had any formal or informal mechanics training or education. and cant believe you go to all the time, effort and expense to tear the whole engine and front end apart but do not do a complete job and replace sleeves, pistons and rings as a set as well as doing a proper valve job with at least new valve springs. and this is a more desirable 8n with side distributor. the first 8n I rebuilt was one of these with less desirable front distributor was 35 years ago so I do know a little bit about what I write.

I don’t know why either because he grew up in ruler like we did my grandpa Myrtles could use the buyer and not leave a mark on the balls to be a farm Mechanic you need to be proficient in the use of Bleier, five script, hammers, and other tools take stuff apart.
