I think the bass drum spurs you used are an upgrade, as far as stability. I never liked the curved legs...too much wobble. Great work, beats, and video, as always!! So glad I subscribe!
@sticksbass5 жыл бұрын
those curved legs are one of the most stable so are the legs on my sp bd.
@CBRansom355 жыл бұрын
@@sticksbass I'm sure you're right. The more I think about it, the last time I played a Ludwig with those curved legs was my grade school when I was about 10 years old. Didn't know enough how to adjust them and probably had the resonant side of the drum too far off the floor, causing the wobble.
@sticksbass5 жыл бұрын
the only way it can wobble is if the legs aren't out enough. if things are strong enough i like to raise the resonant side up a little so the legs are weighted and spiked into the carpet so it wont creep. the way most legs are now i worry about the smooth rods slipping.
@calroden35585 жыл бұрын
My experience playing with a vista was always that the bass drums legs were a bit shite. Could be down to me setting them up badly but i did find them to be a bit on the wobbly side.

Ludwigs are awesome! When I was 15 I asked for some drums, but we couldn’t afford much. So we got the cheapest, most embarrassing used kit from our local shop.. A 70’s Ludwig cortex 3pc with 24” kick. I used to be teased for having such an uncool setup haha! I’m so glad I kept it, they’re the only shells I’ll ever want.
@peteredie91085 жыл бұрын
Awesome video! Just a little tip from someone who spends a lot of time finishing wood, you should look into using a grain filler when staining wood. If you stain/dye the filler a fair bit darker than you want the final finish to be, let it try then stain the wood, it just gives it so much more depth and looks like the woods coloured that way instead of having that "looking at it through coloured glasses" look. Also, buy the filler bare, and stain it yourself, just much cheaper that way and is obviously more versatile as you can stain it any colour. Also, really don't be afraid to stain the filler really dark. When I do mahogany (mahogany is almost a pinkish orange from nature, that brown red look your use to when you hear mahogany is purely stains and dyes) I still stain the filler black, and it comes out amazing and does not make the mahogany look too dark or anything.

Not sure how I got this, but I truly enjoyed it... your passion is appreciated. Back in the late 70’s when I started playing I was practically given a Vistalite Ludwig set, and I sold it and bought a nice Slingerland set (I’m a huge Bill Ward fan)... I kept the snare and the pedal tho... it did have a nice hard sound that I could never find anywhere else. I haven’t played for years but I love your passion. Thanks again...

Cool! I recently did pretty much exactly this with a 1965 Ludwig super classic bass drum shell (3ply with reinforcement rings). It also turned out pretty great. A good friend and I completely reconditioned a full set of Vistalite clear drums he purchased. No missing parts but we polished out every (dam) mark on all of the shells, (no cracks or spider webed holes, wow). That included some wet sanding the worst of the marks, then used Novus 3, Novus 2 and Novus 1 (great stuff) to bring them back nearly like new. Hardware started off in good shape (replaced the worn out tom mounts) so a round of polishing with a bench mounted machine to get them up to real good. Anyway, like new now..... er.... took a LOT?? of hours. Super nice guy, fun to work together with a friend and he LOVES them. He had to try lots of different heads and tunings until he was happy with that aspect, but I'm no drummer and couldn't help with that.

Awesome. Love the rescue videos. There's just something about old Ludwig stuff. I found a 70's thermogloss kit in a buddys basement. It was alot of work but it sounds so freakin retro and sweet! I didn't like the price of the spurs online either. I find those spurs shitty anyways.
