So, is it fair to say that you think all sociology research is quantitive? I'm fine with that. I'm a biologist ;) Anyways, well described. I normally talk in terms of models and predictive capability, but really the same idea. Science itself is a sort of learning algorithm (as is evolution FWIW).

Hi, Trav. Actually, there's a fair amount of qualitative research in sociology avoiding generality, just like there's a fair amount of qualitative research avoiding generality in biology, but what makes sociology distinctive is this general approach.

@@JamesCookUMA Descriptive reports and observations have a long history in Biology, but I'm not sure that's quite the same as what folks in the social sciences tend to mean by "qualitative research" these days. It just wasn't a common term yet when I was learning the basics, so I thought I'd ask.
