Hi Mr. Feinberg, I found this video, especially the diagram, very helpful, but i have some clarifying questions for you. - The study example you used: "To study how well people are doing in school and whether it is related to how intelligent they are"- is this an example of a research hypothesis -if that is an example of a research hypothesis, what would the (applied?) research question be? Here's what i came up with: "To what extent does a student's intelligence impact their academic success?" Would that be a good research question? -finally, do you operationalize each conceptualization of the concept? Using your example of the definition of intelligence meaning: can solve problems, can learn....etc, would you have to define the variable you would use to measure "can solve problems" and each way you defined intelligence, or do you just pick one? i hope these questions make sense! it would be really helpful for me to better understand these concepts because i will have to write a few research papers in grad school and my teacher is not very good.
