One great grandfather was a real black sheep, and I've collected over 200 newspaper clippings about him. Some of these were just small mentions, but many were full blown articles. I've got enough newspaper clippings, court records, and other documents to write a book.

You say to only to look in the state of your ancestor. However, I would add to that - ancestors travel or have family in other states. I have found my ancestors in newspapers far from where they lived. I have a step-grandfather who passed away in California. He's originally from Indiana. Since he was a big deal in the aviation industry, there was a large article about him in Indiana after he passed away.

The Missouri State Historical Society has available 1,270 bound volumes and on over forty-one million pages of microfilm, of Missouri newspapers document events and public opinion from the state’s rural environs to its largest metropolitan areas. Some three hundred current newspapers, from every Missouri county, are added to the collection each week. Hope this helps with Missouri newspapers.

I found my maternal grandmother and grandfather’s wedding announcement in a NJ newspaper. I didn’t even know they had a wedding. She died when my mother was 3, so info about my mother’s parents has been very limited. That information was worth more than gold to me❤️

I’m glad u mentioned common “word” names like Joy and Brown. My last name is Works and I get a lot of “Robert Works at” or “Andrew Works at” etc. I love your videos but hsve to say my ancestry page doesn’t look like yours for the most part.

Excellent tips. I use our local Baltimore papers frequently, and find the most interesting info, especially about businesses my families owned. Thanks Crista!

My mother and her sister had a double wedding in 1950 and for some reason, it listed my mother with her sister's married name. What a mess to try to make "add or update information"

This is old information, my Ancestry doesn't look like this and Newpapers section has no way of choosing a specific person. I can choose Newpapers, USA, Indiana, Marion County, 1920-1929, and it give me 3 results. I click on one of the results, put the name and state in, but i have to choose browse by date and then come back and choose a different date, but I have to put the name and info back in every time ???? What am I doing wrong?

My problem is, Ancestry doesn't have the newspapers for where many of my family lived.

Hi, Dorothy. We understand that it is disappointing when we don't have the newspapers that would help you. We're working to acquire more newspapers all of the time. Maybe at some point we'll have the newspapers that will help you.

Ancestry has the various incarnations of The Oregonian from 1851-1890. Newspapers.com has those papers plus various editions of The New Northwest, The Oregon Daily Journal, the Portland Reporter, and the St Johns Review from 1851-1963.
