Yeah or they make new versions that are actually improvements over the originals. Like I've got X-Men figures from the 90s I bought on ebay in the late 2000s, but now they have new series that look even better, with replaceable heads, so many more poses and detail in the plastic. A few people might like the ones they parted with in the past but I think most will want the new and improved versions.

@@sp123 When it comes to nostalgia, some people are fine with just having pictures of the items to look at. Also media collecting such as music and videos can also be virtualized or reproduced. If you're a record, tape, CD or DVD collector, one day you could decide to digitally copy and sell your originals for money and even print out/burn yourself some bootlegs if desired if you have a nice enough printer. People do it for video game boxes since the boxes add so much value to the item. Why spend $1000 on a rare video game box when you can just print a case for $5? When it comes to holding on to anything, it's best to stay focused on a small sentimental group of items. If that $1000 box is something you really miss in your life because it was your favorite game, then maybe you're the one who should have it. But not if you're a complete stranger to the item.

The shipping costs have gone too high, that’s the main factor, on top of the fact people want to up price every collectable they sell to compensate for selling on eBay. It’s just too much. The sellers have to come down to earth.

I've been thinking about selling off most of my collection, but I don't want to go through the trouble of posting every one, figuring out how much to charge for shipping, then boxing and shipping it all. Resellers do a lot of work for usually just a few bucks over retail cost.

eBay fees is the reason why you have to sell your products at a higher mark up. We sell video game replacement cases on eBay and we have to mark it up bc of the fees but my customers don’t mind paying bc we sell a higher quality stock than what you would get with your original game case. Not only that we have holographic covers so that’s how we separate ourself from others.

Ebay seller fees are unbelievable. 13%, but not on the sale price. It's 13% on the total *after* tax and shipping. That's why the prices are set so high. Not only does the buyer pay sales tax, the seller pays a ebay tax on the tax too!

I have noticed even loose figures have a higher price tag than what you could typically buy a new figure for. I like to customize and kitbash and sometimes you can find just a body or head. But buying just that one part sometimes be costly. I wanted a Moirs Mactaggart figure just for her legs so I could put them on a Yavin Leia to give a white dress Marion a bit more height since Leia is tiny. I found a loose figure which with shipping was still a bit cheaper than buying a complete in box figure. Ollies and Ross are great for folks looking to collect or customize on a budget.

eBay commits absolute theft against their resellers. Their fees are taken from the grand total which means the shipping fees and sales tax. You get charged twice on those sales taxes now essentially. Absolutely wrong, unethical and immoral. Is there a better online marketplace to sell?

You can always tell who the flippers are in one of my hot wheels groups on Facebook ..they always post their hauls and finds and will have 8-10 of the same popular car lol. Most people only post one or two of the same car, these resellers are buying every single hot car right out of the case, but make it out like they just happen to find these hanging on the peg and then when the guys reply saying....yea dude, those aren't worth much, you won't hear from them anymore

I collected action figures in the early 2000s, and back then collectible figures like the Toy Biz Marvel Legends figures were $7-$8 piece. Now most toys in the stores are marketed to collectors, and they're priced over $25 most of the time. I am glad I got out when I did. I couldn't afford to collect today.

It took me 3 years to sell off my small collection of gbc, gba, gamecube, & wii games on marketplace despite having it listed for cheaper & in better condition than other listings. - oh that's too much (umm ok... ya I have it listed below market value) - can u deliver? also would you take $20 less? (lives an hour away) - I can go to ebay and get it for same price with shipping (ya in worse condition than my item... go ahead.. I've already looked) - oh would you take $15... (it's a $60 brand new & it's still sealed... for only $35) - is this available (yes) .... *crickets* -can you meet at this location ( doesn't show up or is 20+min late)

I know exactly what you mean about getting frustrated when you see people with KZbin channels doing walk-throughs of their local targets and finding stuff at every store. Like how often does that ever really happen? In my area maybe once a month if you're lucky. But that's the beauty of editing and selecting the videos that you post. We don't get to see the 50 trips to target, probably multiple in the same day for those people that result in nothing.

High prices theft and also the market is oversaturated as far as brick-and-mortar stores the economy is changing when having to compete with the internet. With the coming fees on internet purchases maybe it will even out eventually. As far as eBay the prices are ridiculous there aren't a whole lot of sales they're trying to charge way too much for action figures, plus the shipping on a lot of stuff is really out of line. Then there's the seller's point of view where eBay is nailing everybody right up the back side with fees on top of taxes.. yet what taxes you must render unto Caesar what is Caesar's.
