they are allowed to use a tool called gl switch so that they always get grenade launcher instead of magnum. even if they get a magnum it will be changed to gl on use. you can see at 4:10 that he got magnum. if it wasn't for the tool. he would have reset the game like speedrunners used to do before this tool was allowed.

@@hugonewguy4009 he is playing live. There is a tool that is allowed in RE3 speedruns that replaces magnum with grenade launcher. So, if you get magnum later on it gets replaced. Yes, this is legal. It's to reduce the amount of RNG and resets. It's all legit and legal.

It's a tool for speedrunners that changes it so that you will always get the grenade launcher from that locker. If you're wondering, this tool is allowed because it's one of the only RNG parts of the game that is a reset if you get the wrong RNG 100% of the time, and it's a part that you are unable to manage. (Unlike safsprin/adravil/aquacure RNG for example, which is at most a time loss)

The speedrun.com community agreed to accept runs played with the "grenade launcher-tool" (GLT) - so even he picked up the magnum it will be replaced by the grenade launcher

Lady Redfield the replace tool, basically makes it so whatever you pick up is a grenade launcher. It’s allowed in RE3 speedruns.

I feel like that tool should not be allowed. It basically controls the RNG. Might as well have the tool control all the RNG in the game if you're gonna already basically cheat. That would be like a Pokemon speed run, but a tool was used to get 100% crit rates, like what's the point

PC versions of the game has what is called by door skip, you can skip door animations pressing the same button used to open the map. But every door in the game has its own exact time to be skipped, it's not instant and you can't mash it out to skip as fast as possible, so speedrunners need to learn the exact time skip from every door in the game to skip their animations as fast as possible.
