@@notcole Items locations, some enemies in rooms and puzzle solutions are all randomized within a few possible options for each playthrough. Meant to add to further replays by switching things up for people. RE2 had 4 campaigns but they each played the same no matter how many runs they did. Not a negative for either in the slightest, just different ideas to accomplish the same thing. It's either 4 not too bad campaigns with a few changes here and there. Or 1 campaign with quite a few choices and flavour changes. Both are great still in my eyes.

@khorne1332 ай бұрын
@@AriseInGondolin another example is depending on which choice you make at either the newspaper or the restaurant. Which in and of itself is a hidden choice again you can make about which to do first. When you go to get the oil additive. It changes whom you meet there and how and why Murphy gets put down by. Carlos it's more of an unwilling mercy killing. While Nicholai it's because it took fewer bullets to kill him now. Rather than after. Same scene. Yet very different in terms of tone. But you are also referring to the 8 different epilogues for some RE characters in different instances of what happens to them before, during and after RE2/3.

Side modes are such a huge factor for especially ps1 games. So many games in the era had things like throw away versus mode ( Dino crisis 2 was so weird lol). @nikkeli39422 ай бұрын
I find it funny how people call RE3 action focused when the game still retains the puzzles, item management and over all survival horror atmosphere of the first two games (Most of it is probably due to Capcom's RE3 Remake narrative). Yes the game has more enemies, but I find it makes the game more intense compared to its predecessors. Even when you're starting to get a bit more comfortable with the game, Nemesis will barge in and bring you back to earth.
@miragenights8012 ай бұрын
@@nikkeli3942 Yeah RE3 Remake put a negative shadow over the original, now folks are saying it was also rushed and lazy to connect it to the remake and justify its lack of content which is annoying since it's untrue. @nikkeli39422 ай бұрын
@@miragenights801 The original was definitely not lazy. RE3 only reused parts of the RPD and maybe some enemy models. And it's not even a bad thing to reuse assets you've already made. The remake however feels like it was made 80% with RE2 Remake assets and the rest of the budget was spent on adding explosions and cutscenes. There's no comparison.

Nemesis encounters are not actually random in the truest sense. Whether he appears or not functions off a specific set of triggers like Live selection choices, the order in which key items are picked up and if he has been defeated since the last trigger point has been initiated. If you play the game the exact same way multiple times he will always show up in the same places. The game does a very good job of making you think its random though.

I do agree though that in the end it doesn't really change the ending of the game too terribly much whether or not you fight Nikolai is based on one decision and that's about it So🤷♂️.

I enjoyed most of your video, the only complaint I have about it is the live choice system. No it doesn't change the ending overall per say, but it does allow a good/bad ending as well as different game playthroughs. For example the last option to either jump off the bridge or knock Nemesis off the bridge changes if Nicholai dies or survives. For gameplay functions choosing different choices can change where Nemesis will chase you through the city or even change boss fights. Probably the biggest notable change in RE3 is during the train cutscene you can jump out a window or push the emergency brake, if you jump out the window, then you do the full clocktower Nemesis fight, if you push the emergency brake then Carlos destroys Nemesis' rocket launcher which only makes you do the second half of the fight. I do want to say that I really did enjoy the video, I just wanted to make you more aware of the choice systems options and consequences.

I came in to the series with RE2 so that will always hold a place in my heart followed by RE1 but RE3 has a very unique blend of gameplay which inspires incredible replayability through a risk/reward "choose your own adventure" system, randomized elements and a degree of non-linear layouts. If you're in to the speed running scene, this is why it's also one of the more punishing because a run will hinge on getting lucky with several puzzles. In a time where information was more limited and extra content was gated behind beating the game, it never felt like you ever truly played the same game twice and RE3 had A LOT of things to unlock from a second ending, costumes and prologues which had neat entries about characters you've previously interacted with. Some may say the game is too short but, because of the replay value, it feels exactly how long it should be where it doesn't overstay its welcome nor does it feel like it's rushed which further encourages you to play again to see what Nemesis drops on an encounter you chose not to do in the previous run. On a more technical side the sound effects are better than those found in Code Veronica, the visuals were more visceral, the locations were great and the ammo crafting had its own kind of mechanics. All in all, they ate a lot of captain crunch but the end result is an incredibly all-around solid product which deserves the praise it receives and why it's my overall favourite in the series. Tank controls and all.

Concerning this game in juxtaposition with the previous titles, it is the only one which took the best of both worlds and ran with them perfectly. This might be somewhat cryptic but for the sake of clarification here is the jest of it: RE2: The overall mood of the story moves towards "hope" since all of the main characters do end up not only saving themselves but pushing thru one hell of an odyssey with the few resources they had available. Claire knows her brother is alive, Ada manages to survive against all odds, even after loosing her parents Sherry regains her will to endure thanks to the bond she formed with Claire, Annette somewhat undo her wrongs by saving her daughter and Leon pulls out the escape he promised to Claire at the beginning. Again it is a story that has a mood directed towards something important for the characters and with the city behind them in plain daylight there is still hope for whoever remains alive. RE3: The overall mood is "despair" because the entire city is lost to the infection and there is no secure place available anymore. In the long run everyone will be dead. For every action towards survival that Jill pull thru there is a reminder of the ones who didn't, not in the zombies but in the environment, for example the car crash near the RPD that might have happened just half an hour before you reach that area, or the green emergency escape ladder near Jacks Bar that gets lifted up by a survivor after you visited the RPD, the UBCS soldier that gets killed by the dogs seconds before you reach his position next to a garage, the fate of Dario Rosso or the most gruesome one: the lone survivor that runs for her life just to get herself killed by one zombie seconds before you reached the door. Again it is the juxtaposition to RE2's hopeful narrative since despite of what you did, you only managed to barely save yourself leaving behind an entire city still with survivors at the mercy of the nuclear fire. RE1: Depending on what paths you took and what decisions you made there are small changes to the narrative and outcome and I am not talking about the endings but stuff like: on Jill's path, meeting Barry in the Fish Tank room seconds after he removed an important page from Dr. Michael's testament or letting Richard die and having the Serum for yourself which can impact the overall tone of the character. YES you CAN make Jill a selfish individual with only one intention in mind, saving herself and in two areas this is perfectly established by the voice acting (shocking!): if you let Barry get killed in the underground tunnels during Jill's encounter with Enrico she will react to his death more in the lines of "glad it wasn't me" than "Enricooooouuuuu!!!!" and during the final confrontation with Wesker, Jill's attitude can almost be seen more close to his personality than the "oh no I was betrayed!" one if Barry is around hearing the conversation. Even in the ending of that path Jill acts like "Now how I am going to explain all this shit back at the precinct?" all while leaving the Tyrant alive and free to roam the Arklays. RE3: The decision making windows change elements in the environment in the same way RE1 did, if you meet one character in one section another will occupy the other place changing the flow of the narrative. For example: depending of where did you meet Carlos for the first time there will be two possible outcomes for Murphy, the UBCS soldier that dies at the Office, in one it is Nikolai who murders him in cold blood despite Murphy's pleas for a chance to live and in the other it is Murphy himself that recognizes how doomed he is and pleas to Carlos to end him, here you learn that both were close friends and how deeply this affected Carlos, something that WILL be visited some time afterwards in the game. And by triggering the "Barry Motherfuckin' Burton" ending you get to know that he was trying to communicate with any survivor at the RPD the entire time once he got wing about the eventual termination of the city, in the same control room where you otherwise would fight the chopper, Barry thru the radio screams that there is no much time left to get out, which is the SAME situation in which Brad found himself before while he was still flying around the Arklays screaming in the radio for someone to contact him. I could go on and on but the point is that, RE3 pulled of those elements with ease and mastered a flow unique to the title in the same way the previous games did: "The damn zombies in the mansion? oh that RE1", "The amazing story and characters? oh that's RE2", "the horrible sense of loss in game form? oh that would be RE3 pal" Anyhow I hope someone survived this wall of text. Cheers.

Just a note about your explanation. While you are correct about the cancelled RE3 for PSX, CV on the Dreamcast was never intended to be a numbered title, nor was RE3 made RE3 due to backroom deals with Sony. For a quick layout of the post-RE2 development stuff, we have -Resident Evil 3 (Ship BIO) -Resident Evil Zero -Resident Evil 1.9 -Resident Evil Code Veronica -Resident Evil Survivor These were all in some stage of development at roughly the same time. When Ship BIO was cancelled, it was to move development to the PS2 in what would become Stylish BIO4 / Devil May Cry under Kamiya. The decision to promote a PSX title to BIO3 was done for a "mixed" reason, it's not entirely clear, but one narrative that comes up often is that they simply didn't want to leave PSX fans hanging for so long and turned 1.9 from a Battle Game style side project to a full game starring Jill Valentine. As an addendum, since dev timelines are already here, it should be noted that main characters in RE got 'shuffled' around this point. In early stages of dev, the 'lead cast' being used were: -HUNK (Ship BIO) -Jill Valentine (CV) -Chris Redfield (CV) Once RE2 was at the tail end of development though, Kamiya inserted Claire's final line regarding Chris, which led to lead scenario guy Sugimura altering the concept for CV to incorporate that, switching out Jill for Claire. When Ship BIO got cancelled and 1.9 got promoted to 3, they needed a main character to insert to make the scenario more appealing to casual fans, and it came down to this: Chris and Claire would be in CV and narratively could not appear. Leon had just escaped the city in the prior game. Jill was now not the lead star of CV. From there, Jill was chosen as the protagonist. This is also likely why she had a drastic redesign more in the sexual vein of Lara Croft, to generate further appeal (likely for fear that the game would not be enough for fans- Mikami himself personally saw titling the game as "Biohazard 3" to be somewhat shameful and upsetting).
@bepohal7 күн бұрын
dude, you fell for that same nonsense like many others from that long time ago disproven guy on r3ddit. watch shinji mikami himself telling you that CV actually always was RE3 and had to be renamed due to an exclusive deal with sony. that also wasn't a backroom thing but an official contract they had.
@CodemeisterEX7 күн бұрын
@@bepohal Shinji Mikami said that decades after the fact and was not deeply involved in the Code Veronica project, along with pretty much any RE project he didn't direct if you actually research their development histories. If you go back to everything we have from that time, we can find that, at no point, was Code Veronica ever called BIO3. It was always Code Veronica. Additionally, this notion is disproven by the existence of Ship BIO3 which later was scrapped and shifted to the PS2 before becoming BIO4 under Kamiya. Ship BIO3 started development immediately after 2's development was concluded. There is neither no true confirmation beyond hearsay from someone barely involved with any of the games, nor evidence from the development timelines that show CV was meant to be RE3. The notion about Sony wanting the next numbered entry on PSX might be true, but again, there was already a BIO3 planned for the console before 1.9 was upgraded to that status.

Okay, this gets a bit complicated, but I'll try to simplify things. Resident Evil lore can be divided into several "arcs". The first four games - REs 1, 2, 3 and Code Veronica - are the "classic" arc, and are all about a small cast dealing with the fallout of Umbrella's experiments. Then there's the post-Umbrella arc, with Umbrella being taken down between Code Veronica and RE 4, which saw Capcom both doubling down on the action horror elements of RE2 and RE and introducing new enemies to take the role of the traditional T-Virus outbreaks; RE 4 and 5 introduced Las Plagas, parasites that created fast moving, aggressive, "neo-zombies". Then there was RE6, which literally combined 4 RE stories into one for a mega-reunion of all the series protagonists as well as having both zombie type and plaga type enemies. Though this actually sold well, there was a huge verbal backlash against RE6 for having taken the action elements as far as it did. So we had RE7, which attempted to win back the fans by going back to the basics; a random Joe Nobody locked in a creepy mansion overrun by some kind of horrible mutagen. This was praised, so they did a sequel, which they just went absolutely nuts with, including adding unnecessary retcons.

Im still flabbergasted at how much RE3 remake cut from the original now that I've actually played it since it's up on gog. They didn't just cut the game short, they literally GUTTED it with how much they removed. My heart goes out to the old fans who played the original first and then had to go through the horror of what the remake did.

Anyone else kinda wish they did what they did with the Metal Gear master collection and release the first 4 RE games as they were in the day and THEN do the remakes? Cuz I honestly would love to play the original resident evil 2. And then have the remakes. Cuz they’re great remakes but there are certain parts missing from the originals.

I still own the og games and my old systems. So it feels really nice playing it on the original hardware. Unfortunately the games now a days cost way too much online. The practical solution would be to release them on the newer systems. However its not just capcom that does this and i have yet to know why

My top-1, mostly because it's my first RE game ever. Fun moment: my pirated Dreamcast disc had broken scripts near the end of the game, right after you enter into penultimate fight with Nemesis, timer starts, but screen is frozen in a cutscene state. Sooo basically I've been on a cliffhanger for years lol. ...I also asked my dad for help with water sample puzzle.

While i consider RE3 part of the OG style of games, it's definitely the least memorable for me. Even Code holds a more significant place in my memory. I have the remake still to play too but i expect it to be "okay"

I believe the upgraded pistol not using enhanced rounds is for balance because the upgraded pistol has a faster fire rate and higher critical shot chance. The upgraded shotgun does more damage, higher accuracy, and changes to semi-auto vs pump.

OG RE3 is the very first RE game I've ever played when I was a kid and no one will ever change my mind for thinking that it's the best RE game ever made. Playing RE3, Dino Crisis and Silent Hill are best thing happen to me and the main reason why I love survival horror. It's very disappointing that RE3 Remake is bot as good as the OG RE3.

RE3 remake was tragic AF. A big disappointment for me was Nemesis being on a rail/trigger system (i think thats what its called) a scripted trigger 🤔. What made RE3 scary was Nemesis appearing at anytime anywhere and the fear of him constantly coming for you throughout the entire game. Not forgetting the BS of Jill picking up AND firing a frigging lazer cannon the size of an 18 wheeler 😅😅

With additions like dodging, auto walking up stairs, and Mercenaries this is the only one of the trilogy that honestly still feels super tight to play now. Everyone who played this back in 99 generally considers this one to be their favorite of that trilogy, it’s a really strange thing. Not really a hidden gem but back then it definitely was.

The sad thing is, the voice acting was good...for the time. Voiced gaming was still pretty young, and by modern...and sometimes even those older standards...it was pretty cheesed up and hammy. Because there was no real blueprint of how to do it well. Today, we get so many good voice acting examples in games. Back then? Ha, not so much.
@MPT1983Ай бұрын
I think swapping out the fan favorite Lickers for those bug things that nobody cares about was the only flaw in this game, maybe that how annoying the dodge mechanic is, I swear I only ever get it to work by fluke

I personally think the textures of re3 made everything look better than re2. I will agree that the story of re2 is better. Nemesis in 3 is way scarier than bosses in re2. My last playthrough I avoided attacking nemesis and it's heart pounding to have him chase you down between doors

Personally I felt that RE got progressively worse with each numbered entry all the way up till number 7 when it finally broke that streak, 1 was the Goat for me, none of the others could match that slow paced mystery detective game feel that number 1 had which I love.
