@@kicknowledgesmith8608 As I mentioned in another comment thread, the CW is roughly the USA equivalent to Shonen Jump in Japan, juvenile series target to the kid-teen demographic. That's not a bad thing in and of itself, far from it, but over the years the CW network in specific has firmly built a consistent reputation that isn't exactly flattering for a good deal of their shows. Most current CW shows fall in the same vein as Smallville, basically a show plagued with questionable, irritating, laughable, and contrived storytelling on the level expected from a typical 12-yeard old child. Now, you could say we've reached a point where we shouldn't take things so seriously, learn to lighten up, and enjoy harmless fun and what not, but there is a clear divide in mentality when it comes to the USA were more often than not anything perceived as "childish" is a sign of disgust, embarrassment, weakness, so on and you should feel ashamed for liking it. Obviously that's a pretty dumb mindset to have, but you can clearly see that divide in Martin (Its just a goofy show, have some fun my dude) and Korey (Bah! Humbug, blasphemy).

Korey is coming at it from a weird pov. To criticize this for not doing "the same thing" in adapting a video game into a television show but praising 7 and 8 for doing their own thing is odd. Welcome to Racoon did all the things people asked and it was terrible. This purposely changes it's trajectory. This series is actually set after the 5th or 6th game and doesn't really change much apart from skin color and Umbrellas reputation. That doesn't make it a great show for OTHER REASONS but to criticize it on the basis of adaptation is a bad take.

Here's a thing I feel like makes a successful adaptation: does it cross promote the source material, as in makes newcomers want to experience that medium? Because Arcane and The Witcher made me start looking into those franchises, but there's not any overlap with the Resident Evil games here. And that's a problem, especially with Capcom, heck, the Monster Hunter movie by Paul WS Anderson had a tie in quest with Monster Hunter World, but the backlash with China ended up getting that quest pulled forever, and actually hurt sales with the franchise in China.

The fact the only person who liked this was someone who never played the games means this series did exactly what it set out to do: appeal to the non-gamer Average Joes who don't give a damn if the characters/plot are remotely faithful to the material. 😐It's what the Paul Anderson movies did too. And those films kept making bank because Average Joes, as well as fans who simply settled for those films, kept giving them their support/money. Frankly, I'm just so fed up with it. It's not hard to adapt this series and appeal to BOTH the non-gamer and gamer audience. There are SO MANY amazing stories from the series they could've adapted. Hell, they could've done a series around Spencer as a prequel, introducing completely new stories that would eventually tie in to the lore of RE. But nope. We keep getting bastardizations of RE instead. RE needs to do what Cobra Kai and Top Gun did - get creative and talented people who are both KNOWLEDGABLE and FANS of the property behind it.

Sure, the only logical issue is to make it so all the characters function in one scenario, but with SMART writers and planners, it could work. But no, once again, we have to deal with nonsense. I still hold the original movie as a fun and enjoyable flick for what it is as well as the second one for being a guilty pleasure, being based off of my favorite classic game of the series and having my favorite female character of Jill Valentine portrayed very well... and ignore or treat the rest as a popcorn flick to have dumb fun with. However, Welcome to Raccoon City can kick rocks for being so stupid with just throwing references all over the place and ruining the plot of the first two titles by condensing them into the same timeframe instead to the two month time gap in between them.

in the Welcome to racoon city movie, they did cast someone that looks almost exactly like Leon when it was supposed to be a show. but they ran out of funding and recast to the Leon we got. the guy they originally cast for Leon was one of the other stars members in the cafe when Leon shows up in town.

I agree, I never really liked them changing the race of characters. But I do believe the bigger problem is they don't write the characters correctly. Something that I'm starting to think they do on purpose. By purposely writing weak characters that no one would be interested in, much less emulate. Basically sabotaging anything that inclusion might hope to accomplish. I keep going back to Cyborg in Justice League. Yeah he was always black character, but the producers and director chose to make him stereotypical and generic in the theatrical release when they literally had a version of him that was fleshed out and relatable already filmed. Why??

The reason they can't make a good RE or even something decent is because most of these creators never play these games themselves and just watch someone play them briefly. They see stuff and just jumble it together. Thats why those RE movies always had enemies and characters just thrown in there as it was whatever game had just released or was big at the time.

I don't blame the actors for this miserable failure, I blame the writers. They wrote teen Jade and Billie using the stereotypical angst filled trope making then incredibly unlikable. They made them so dumb making catastrophic mistake after mistake. The only plus this show had was the clone Bert....that's it.

I decided to watch the Resident Evil TV series after watching this video. I don't even think you even need to play the games to consider this to be "some ol bullsh*t." If you watch this show, you will ask yourself the question "why did she do that?!" so many times. Lance Reddick is great, but the main character of the show does not drive the story well at all. The way she was written in the show makes you think the father - daughter relationship never existed at all, when it should have been complex and nuanced to show how complicated, stressful, yet binding family relationships can be.

Martin was honest and objective, Corey was almost as biased as most of the hardcore Resident Evil fans. A sword and skin color are the only visible differences between Blade and Albert Wesker, so to complain that a black Albert Wesker looks like Blade is ridiculous. Also there is a reason Albert Wesker had to be black, is so there could be another show with a main black female protagonist.

The way I have described ALL of the Resident Evil movies and now TV shows..is, "Just cause you drag a chicken through a pot of water for a few seconds, doesn't mean you've made chicken soup". There's a little bit more to chicken soup than that..and similary, there's a little more to the franchise than occasionally tossing in an element that a gamer might recognize. The story has to be solid, and FEEL like Resident Evil. I haven't seen the latest movie, yet. But so far, from what I've seen..all of the movies have struck out.

From Someone that played the games and knows lure everything is completely Wrong about this series. They're saying that Albert is a clone from RE5 where the real Albert Died in the Volcano ok I can deal with that but having the clone meet Lisa Trevor.... that mistake number 1 Lisa Trevor died in raccoon city Mansion, During toward the end of Resident evil Lisa Trevor followed Albert to the main hall, the real Albert shot the chandelier which pinned Lisa Trevor to the Mansion hall floor, as Albert escape the mansion blow up from self-destruction killing Lisa - That was the lure in Resident evil 1. Second Mistake - Is the mention of the Monster being big, the series mentions the T-virus Causing it which is wrong because the T-virus only turn people and animals into a zombie, they don't have the genetic code to turn a GuB into a gRAVE DIGGER or A spider in a massive creature. which they get totally wrong in dialog. The spider, Gravediggers are T-virus & G-virus spliced together which cause massive mutation in the body. Which the series gets wrong. The lickers are a Combination of T-virus with the E -virus but a Controlled mutation experiment. This is why This Netflix series isn't even Canon.

Honestly good or bad does it even matter when it comes to new shows on netflix these days. Netflix seems to cancel new shows as fast as they greenlight the first season these days, so even if it was actually a good adaptation odds are you will randomly wake up one morning to the news of it being canceled. Why make a season 2 of anything other than for anything less than a mega hit when you can use that money to make 3 random new shows in it's place, seems to be the netflix strategy these days. The old lure and bait method, it must be working or they would stop doing it or people would stop subbing, but apparently people do have the memory of a gold fish and get excited as a labrador that sees one of their toys and keep getting baited in by all these constant new premiering new shows that ultimately all end up being subpar or canceled randomly even if it turns out alright. Netflix is going to have the largest catalog of canceled shows, but long as they got a front of page of shiny new things for the sheep to click on, the sheep will keep throwing their money at them begging for more random pretty fluff ignoring the giant graveyard of bones in the back.
