RA reveals the highs and lows of life as a touring DJ, as we begin our new film series with an intimate journey across Europe with Nina Kraviz.
Back in 2009, we started a feature called Touring Scenes with the stated aim of asking "a DJ or live act to tell us the story of what happens when the music isn't playing." FaltyDL, Spencer Parker, Kim Ann Foxman, Ralph Lawson and nine others gave first-person accounts of their time on the road, revealing the incredible highs and crushing lows that are all in a day's work. The feature was great in the written form (we hope you'll agree) but we felt that there was no better way of understanding this lifestyle than to pick up a camera and document these experiences firsthand.

I had Nina sat next to me on a flight from Heathrow to Glasgow some years ago . She was great company . I even gave her a lecture about tinnitus due to her DJ job as i have tinnitus already . Very nice lady and she can do a great brummie accent as well. William .

When i watched this documentary in 2013 i didn't get Nina's comment's about being sad about it and moaning about being alone, But having some success myself and travelling alot around Europe alot this last year playing i have always thought to myself, it would be nice if i had a friend with me to experience this. To share what i'm feeling. But that's what comes with the job you have to be prepared to accept it's going to be like that for a very long time. But wouldn't change it for the world.

I love how this Between the Beats has the least amount of dialogue, is the shortest time wise, and has the artist in a bathtub between clips of her at sunset in a short dress. I feel like Kraviz gets so much flack for being a hot woman dj, with so many people pointing to her sex appeal as her ticket for success while she is actually a pretty talented DJ/producer as far as techno goes. I am surprised that she signed off on this lackluster video that does nothing but support the critics calling her out as nothing more than a sparkle pony of techno. Edit: This is the first time I gave gotten a "Highlighted comment". I tried to look into it but I'm still not clear; so if anyone knowledgable has insight on the issue, please let me know.

people talk what they like to talk about. If they were interested talking about music than they will talk about the soundtrack to this film which is 100 per cent consists of Nina's music. And it is kind of irrelevant who is sparkle pony of techno unless the pony has amazing catalog of music. Well lets be honest none of them cunts have ever made anything closer musical to what she did so far. Doesnt matter in bikini or in burka- she is amazing musician and beautiful woman.

Damn right the music scene has to be taken seriously. Is this what the underground has become? Are these the "freshest DJSs?" In a bathtub of a 5 star hotel, making fake smiles to the audience and getting gigs through her looks? This is a big statement about what the techno seen has become. Futile, easy-listening, glamorous. No more balls, no more sweat, no more raving. Its okay to make easy music, but please dont disguise it as the cutting edge. I do not think at all Nina is booked only for her looks. Its out of question she is talented. What I criticize is the scene where she is successfull in, where a beautiful body, the celebrity status and this false intimacy come together as a tv commercial, and she is voluntarily part of that. She is aware but chooses this: plays the game. But she has no courage to admit this is not techno. Its the celebrity world taken to a more sofisticated level.

KZbin reccommended me her Essential Mix, while I was listening to Ben Klock's one. Yes, admittedly, I clicked on it because I saw her pretty face on the thumbnail. But I really liked not only her looks, but, mainly, the music she played. Since then I've been following her. Now I've stumbled on this video. On one side I got people saying she's a shit as a DJ and a person, making her way through using her astonishing looks. On the other side, people defending her, pointing that she really knows the DJ drill and she is not on a high horse. What is true and what is not? I fucking hate such situations, in which I really like the artist/DJ but now I'll constantly recall al those negative things she's been accused of doing in the comments. Maybe I should just stick to my opinion of her and enjoy her sets, but, not being knowledgeable in this field, it really bugs me that she might be a douche :/ Well, idk what to think about that, I just hope it's not true because i genuinely like her :)
