I'm from El Salvador! 💙 Indeed, gangs are the outcome of the civil war our country experienced in which the U.S. helped the current government back then by training very young people to fight against the guerrilla. When the government lost the civil war, many of them had to emigrate, trying to search for help from the country that trained them. Many gathered into the gang MS-13 o Mara Salvatrucha but ended up being deported back cause they had no papers.

I cry a lot when he mention El salvador cuz my daddy is 46 and he live the war, a lot of his friends were recruiter for the guerillas and some of them were taking to the military his 46 and our houes u can still see the bullets holes in our walls some part of our town A lot of my fisrt oldest counsins were born in the war and my auntie have to go to the hosptital doging bullets and avoiding guerrillas and militar soldier. I was born a couple year after the agreetment peace, but we actually never heal as a country , a lot o mi friends and my generation had to grow up with out parents cuz they have to leave the country and as myself raise wit not mom . I seen so many people have to join tje pandillas cuz they did not know something better. And see hard working people being killed just for going out and work for their kids .

If you ever get the chance and are interested, I highly recommend reading “Inventing Latinos: a new story of American racism” by Laura E Gomez, specifically the chapter “We Are Here Because You Were There”. It goes over a lot of the history of US intervention in Latin America and it’s consequences. It’s a good overview, but even that doesn’t cover the full extent of the sheer brutality and exploitation completely glossed over in US history

If you want to learn Spanish to understand urban music then be sure to keep in mind that it's very different from the spanish accent a beginner would normally use to learn like Mexican, Peruvian... these are clear, slow and neutral sounding accents. While the accents in urban music are more fast paced because they are usually dominican, puertorican, venezuelan

No, man Hip Hop was created or birthed in Sound View in NYC the Boogie Down. It was created by the black, Jamaican kids and Puerto Rican kids. The 5 elements my man. B-Boys and all. It was already a mesh of music. Look at Bomba has very big roots in the genre and improvisation. That is a Puerto Rican thing in their African roots as the folks from there are mixed of the three. Taino, African and Anglo. So hip hop just ain’t American or black and that’s a misconception here in the US and internationally.

You should read the book, “From Bomba To Hip Hop.” You can still find used copies. It is worth the read and will provide knowledge on how hip hop was created and born. Don’t believe those moronic morons who want to say breakin and hip hop was created from the South. Those folks want to change the history of the genre because it does not their narrative either due to their ow ln racial biases or lack of being objective to history. Whatever the case the book is a good read.
