I had forgotten about you and Donovan cutting up that trunk in his backyard so many years ago... I missed the live stream, but it goes to show how you can meet someone for one reason which turns out to become both a friendship and a really good business partner for other work. Donovan will never need to find another miller and you will never need to find another remodeler.

What is so noticeable, is the knowledge Donovan brings to this project. His forward thinking resolves issues before they become issues. Plus, what a great collection of tools to do everything from siding to roofing to framing. He is the MAN! Now find him a few apprentice so he cans pass all that knowledge onto some young’ns.

Gotta love watching a new installment of the Matt and Donovan comedy version of This Old House. Old man Donovan showing Matt the age Old wisdom of measure twice, cut once and other handy tips. Gee, maybe one day young whipper snapper Matt will have Donovan's level of professionalism and be able to pass on his knowledge to his little son 👦. That said, the house is really looking awesome.

Can you share your experiences with structural engineers and building inspectors, specifically when changes to the original plan are involved?
@donavanshomes2 жыл бұрын
Anytime structural changes are made I check with the engineer before we move forward. I do try and work with the building inspector on every job. One of my other current jobs we removed all of the interior walls and replaced floor joists with trusses. I call the inspector to come out and look over everything before the Mechanical contractors started their work. Generally if you talk to them upfront thing go better.

That's a clever scaffolding system. It's really nice to see your progress, and how you and Donovan work well together.
@MikeC191002 жыл бұрын
The siding really looks good on that portion of the house. That scaffold system would have been so helpful on many of the jobs I worked on, but at that time all we had were the typical 6 foot scaffold sections and if you ran out of scaffolding you put some planks down and added a ladder to make up the height deficiency. We've come a long way it tools and capabilities since then.

I remember the sound of hammers when I was younger. This is in Wellington NZ and most days you would hear them almost like a carpenter orchestra percussion section. And of course hand saws and actual wood hehe... But that scaffolding looked good to work on :)

😹😹well that explains why I recognised his face😹😹😹 I remember watch that episode, but it explains why you both are so good as a work team as well. It’s always great to have people working on home projects that you know their work ethics up front, I have seen so many builders who cut small corners thinking it’s fine but the one thing I noticed with Donovan he went the extra mile when he placed those corner pieces on the windows after you had both just finished installing those new kitchen windows, I have seen the same windows put in on another project and the corner pieces were never placed at the end of the installation.
