Resignation of Rivers State Commissioner Should Not Affect Governor’s Performance -Asukewe Iko-Awaju

When people resign from the cabinet, it is the duty of the state governor to step up and perform. It is not an excuse for the governor to underperform.

I have never seen where a commissioner is greater than a governor that is chief executive of a state. There is no need for any commissioner to remain in a cabinet where he would have no respect for the governor. Resignations of Wike's loyalists in Fubara cabinet is welcome development as a servant can't serve two masters. Those commissioners has no integrity for coming back to their vomits having resigned in the first place without following their hearts, but only following Wike's instruction without using their senses. The fact that they came back after resignation, means they acted against their conscience.

Those Commissioners have destroyed their integrity in the eyes of Rivers people, they have no reasonable excuse to resign and re-resign at their levels due to normal cabinet reshuffle whivh is done by all the Governors and President from time to time. Why the noise about people resigning from office. They were serving at the mercy of the governor, and they didn't want to serve again. Their duties were to implement the programs of the government headed by the governor and nothing else. If they feel they are too big to be reassigned and thrown in the towel, good for them. The governor should now appoint those that will be loyal to his government.

If the 2 former Commissioners alleged that they resigned because the Governor was interfering in their ministries, they should be informed that their former positions were at the pleasure of the Governor. He has the sole responsibility to hire and fire.

Note that whatever laws these decamped 27 members are passing now, would be changed and overturned by the next house of assembly members after them. Most of the Wike's 27 decamped assembly members now won't make it back to be law makers in 2027 as Rivers people will reject them at the poll.

But the Rivers state people will decide who they want between Wike and Fubara in the next months and years before any election. Rivers people are not daft. They are watching what is going on between Fubara and Wike. People will speak soon. Remember that edo state people spoke in 2019 between Oshiomole and Obaseki. As a whole chairman of APC in 2019, Oshiomole LOST the game to Obaseki. Wike may try to manipulate the moribund and dying PDP leadership at Abuja in his favour against Fubara, but he can't change the will and wishes of Rivers state people. Let us all keep on watching the drama. The truth shall prevail over evil.
