Resilient and site-adapted cereal population

In cereal populations, instead of uniform genotypes, many individual single plants with diverse characteristics are used in cultivation. The Dottenfelder Hof in Hesse is breeding them and is testing their cultivation as part of the EIP project. Initial results show that the performance and yield of cereal populations rival those of standard varieties. And there are even more advantages: Populations are more resistant to diseases and extreme weather events and can better adapt to site-specific growing conditions over the years, resulting in stable stands.
