Resist Printing with Gelli Arts® Plates, Books, and Magazines

Watch Birgit as she shows us how you can use old book pages and all kinds of magazines for resist printing. First she rolls out a thin layer of one or more colors on the plate, making sure to have a nice and even layer. Then she places the image she wants to “transfer’’ right side down on the plate and rubs firmly. She carefully lifts up the paper. Then she lets the transferred image dry well. When the image is dry, she adds new paint to the plate in a thin layer. You can see how the image shines through. Next, she places a sheet of paper on top right away, rubs firmly, and pulls the print. Her plate is clean and she has a beautiful print. Follow along and create your own resist prints using book and magazine paper!

Ooolala ! I love it. This is fantastic. I’m wondering if laser printed images would work. This type of transfer typically works best with printing that results in an image sitting on top rather than an image that sinks into paper. This just makes me so happy. Bummed I’ll have to wait so long to try it.

Jennifer Basinger thin layer of acrylic paint glossy magazine worked best let print dry on Gelli plate a bit before adding a dif paint layer over the top Don’t add too much paint to Gelli plate but it is trial and error

I too tried this with no results. I tried both an acrylic paint and textile paint on PFD fabric. The magazine page just took the paint when I rubbed instead of transferring the image to my Gelli plate. I tried varying the amounts. Please advise.

I would say no because the paint on the surface will obscure the original print :) But don't forget, you could then scan your print and save the result, and then print off as many times as you need :) x

What about using prints you have printed on your printer have you tried that? this way you could use your own photos or drawings printed out... does the ink transfer.
