1. Civil government and rule is a blessing from God and not a necessary evil. 2 Samuel 23:3,4 2. God establishes a righteous throne with majesty. Proverbs 16: 12 3. The law of God is the soul of a good ruler. Exodus 18: 21 4. God requires true humility of his rulers. Deuteronomy 17: 20 5. Our basic demeanour towards civil rulers should be one of honour. 1 Peter 2: 17 6. Tyrants love moral corruption and hate virtuous men. Revelation 2: 14 7. Absolute perfection in our rulers is not the point. Psalm 51: 11 8. Tyranny is a judgement from God for the sins of the people. 1 Samuel 8: 11 9. Every type of civil government is under the authority of God. Romans 13: 4 10.Civil disobedience is required of Christians when matters of worship and the Gospel are concerned. Daniel 3: 18 11. Civil disobedience is lawful in other areas as well. 1 Samuel 24:5, 22 12. Civil government has a dual covenantal nature that involves God and people, and the king and the people. 2 Chronicles 23: 16 13. No human authority can be absolute. Daniel 4: 35 14. Not everything that is legal is lawful. Revelation 13: 17 15. Faithful believers will often be accused of lawlessness and treason. 1 Kings 18: 17 16. The Bible teaches the principle of the consent of the governed. 1 Kings 12: 1 17. The lot of the people and the character of their rulers are linked. Proverbs 29: 2 18. Resistance of tyranny is not the same thing as resistance of the established civil order. 2 Chronicles 23: 11 19. Lesser magistrates obeyed Jehoiada and they were right to do so. 2 Chronicles 23: 1,3 20. We must care what kind of company our rulers keep. Proverbs 25: 5 21. Christian history matters. Caesar’s job description belongs to God. If Caesar redefines his own job description he is disobeying Romans 13.

They neither called for nor actually revolted or resisted against the pagan Caesars of their time. Paul was telling people to submit to Nero in Romans 13. But I guess that's when Nero was a nice pagan, right (btw, the person who made that argument initially was a unitarian).

@@Marra7777 They have on paper only. They technically haven’t taken a single gun yet. We’re not the type that will smile and say “okay” as we willingly hand in our semi autos. People have been going nuts buying as many as humanly possible. Our guns stores look as empty as yours right now... Ammo too. Luckily they missed quite a few on their ban list. Bullpups like the Tavor and RDB to name a few are still free range and being stockpiled by anyone lucky enough to find them. Any AR15’s are registered, unfortunately. But a good number of semi autos that everyone buys were non restricted, meaning non registered. Believe me, we’re well armed and are fighting this gun grab with record numbers. Canadians love their guns too. And not just hunting rifles and shotguns 👌🏻

Spot. On. Thank you for the most detailed and accurate description of what’s happening in Roman’s 13. We went round and round (respectfully) with our pastor over this issue. We brought up so many other examples in the Bible, but it was always met with anger and accusing us of being disobedient. We unfortunately had to leave the church. It ended up a blessing, but it was so sad to walk through. It also challenged our faith. So many of our Christian brothers and sisters were against us because we were speaking against closing the church, masking, sitting apart from each other and not doing communion. It was so demented what they were doing under the guise of honoring the Lord.

Outside of my own pastor, I have my favorites popular pastors and teachers, and I go to each one for insight on different topics. Pastor Wilson has quickly become my go to guy on cultural engagement, and family/relationship stuff. If his soteriology wasn't so sketch (which doesnt rile me up to near the extent that it does many of my esteemed PCA brethren) , I'd think this man the greatest of his generation. Christianity does not necessitate pacifism. Augustine, for what its worth, did write rules for just war, after all.

I appreciate the balance in Romans Ch 13. There is an obligation of obedience and an obligation of restraint. The "restraint" is that the sword is only given for one limited purpose. The passage immediately becomes absurd if that purpose can be arbitrarily defined by the authorities wielding the sword. As we cannot be in good christian obedience while assisting another in their disobedience, we are obligated to resist when those in authority order us to assist them in using the sword against those who are not doing evil. ... Especially when we can peacefully and lawfully do so on a jury.

Like you're saying that He establishes all authorities so He established our government according to His will so all of it must be valid but he didn't establish the other ones that were invalid? Paul set a real nice example of that, even the transcript of Jesus’ trial is recorded in the Bible. When it comes to God and truth, our opinions hold water like a sieve. Besides, we want political leaders with biblical worldviews, otherwise we end up having representatives who think it’s ok to rip a baby apart in its mother’s womb... 🤷🏽‍♂️ A side note, if you ever go to a church service or bible study and hear the phrase, “I think” from the pulpit, that should be a red flag

Without sounding too pretentious, Christian theologians might benefit from a better understanding regarding the anatomy of the state; and Christian ancaps might benefit from a better understanding regarding God's word. @@zapazap I hear ya. For me, the biggest questions are what form of government (i.e. authority) is from God (Romans 13:1) and how can we know it is? Almost always, the Constitution is **assumed** to be. However, what was wrong with the Articles of Confederation or the English Monarchy? Were these authorities not from God? If not, how were they known not to be? I suppose I use ancap as an augmentation to my revelational, Christian epistemology. To the degree I am interested in the above questions (I'm not sure how Christians cannot be in light of Romans 13...), I need a tool that can analyze the data. Ancap is such a tool.

God established Government. There’s a difference between wanting no government and wanting limited government. No government is lawlessness and chaos, pure sin. As sin is chaos and lawlessness to God’s good natural order and law. To be anarchic is to rebel against something that in itself is fundamentally good.
