"i think we could do that with a comealong and some vice grips... whaddayathink?" sounds like a good plan!

How did they get the piano hinge rods back in. I’d love to see the rest of the process.

I was thinking the same thing .. seems like it would be a chore.

The easiest way to pull the pins is with a cordless drill. And when going back in I use Mobil One oil to Lub the pin and drill it back in! The weatherly spray planes use the same method. During annuals it has to come off every year!

Using Beech's original system, the "hinge" wires are re-installed using a series of graduated length thin steel tubes and and impact driver/rivet gun, but I'll bet "drilling" the wires back in might work, but you'd still need to use the steel tubes, otherwise, the wire tries to coil up like a slinky when twisted b the drill.

@Jim Brown, Beechcraft says not to use a drill to remove the pin with a drill, it can twist it off (Chapter 57-00-00, page 3). @David Farrish, textron sells a special tool ($$$) to reinstall the pin with a rivet gun. @Jim Brown, we tried a lot of different ways to remove the pins and found the redneck ingenuity worked best! It was a “hold my beer” moment that worked. @Philip Meads, the whole point was to not remove the wing and only the leading edge to save time and money for the customer. Wing removal and installation with new wing bolts is very expensive!!! It took a few days for Tom, Dave and I to figure it all out. Tom fabricated the tools we all helped design. We can do a leading edge repair, start to finish, in less than a week, minus paint. We’ve done 5 and 2 are in the queue. We can even travel to the location, remove the leading edge, bring it back on a truck, do the repair, take the repaired leading edge back on a truck and install it, if the customer is unable to ferry the plane. Let’s say we have it down to a science! We get a lot of calls to walk shops through the process, loan out our tools, etc. but this is proprietary and we are in business to make money and give the best service. Royal Aircraft Services specializes in major structural repair. We can do what most shops do not have the capabilities of doing with structures.

What can you do about a P model bonanza magnesium ruddervator corrosion?

Why the piano hinge to join leading edge if the manual says the whole wing needs to come off anyway?
@tropicthndr4 жыл бұрын
That’s the original design purpose, to be able to repair the one place on the wing that gets 99% of the stupid pilot damage, birds, taxi strikes, basically flying through the air “”too fast at low altitude”” where all the bugs, birds, and ice are. You know idiot pilot stuff where their invincible until they hit something. Anyway I want to see how they jack hammer that hinge pin back into place with tons of lube.
@Captndarty2 жыл бұрын
@@tropicthndr you can hit a bird at 80kt just as easily as 140. Bugs don’t damage the leading edge and ice doesn’t happen near the ground it happens higher in the air. Basically 99% of your comment is stupid
