Great job. A few questions: Is that midsole rubber or leather? Also, do you know whether Red Wing manufactures their own traction tread sole (as shown) or does Vibram make it for them? Thanks

xaerovette thanks 🙏🏻 . They are made by Vibram USA. Red Wing makes the Supersole in the factory, cast directly on the boot.

I just got mine back from a local cobbler, but they didnt replace the midsole. I m not sure if they even have a sewing machine. How about your shoes? I m in Germany and I payed 75€.

Had mine back for a couple weeks now. No new midsole, no new stitches. Nothing but a new sole glued on. I paid $85

Hello! That was a traction tred sole and a new resole costs 82.50€ and we shipped them back for free in most of EU!

Not if you can remove only the outsole, which can be difficult.

@@TheFrontyer I appreciate the response! I have since resoled my White's Perrys to success it seems. I purchased a cobbler stand, mounted it to it, and used channellocks and a sharp knife to get almost all of it off fairly easily, and used a wood shop edge sander for the rest.

I like the use of the rubber midsole, which is how they were originally built. I just wish they could figure out how to include a shank of some kind, for better arch support. Also, I did not know that you could buy the Red Wing Supersoles. I’ve always assumed that you had to let Red Wing do the work to get them

The Supersole® by Red Wing is a polyurethane sole. T he RW factory locks the footwear into custom machined molds, injects the liquid urethane which expands and creates a chemical bond to the thermoplastic reactive welt so they fuse together chemically creating a bond. The Red Wing company pioneered this process and patented it back in the seventies. Though the patent has most likely lapsed, the extreme cost of the custom machined molds and related processes have successfully set the company apart right up to the present day. Since it's so expensive to get this process up and running I know of no other company making boots with a fused thermoplastic Goodyear welt and PU sole. I'm a third generation shoe cobbler and maintain a physically separate shoe store where we sell Red Wing and other footwear. We've sold RW shoes for about 60-years now. Wedge soles being solid in the instep area provide the best arch support , and actually do not need any kind of shank unlike boots with breasted heels. At one time RWS sold "blocker" PU Supersoles® to RWS dealers that repaired Supersole® type boots. We still would add a bonded and sewn mid-sole to be more certain the sole's bond would hold as without the molds and injection machinery we could not achieve the same tenacious chemical bonding between PU sole and reactive welt. I respect Red Wing for still making very high quality boots in the U.S.A. They are also the only boot maker I know of that has their own leather tannery. Oh, a big reason, I believe, they are so good is that the company is still family owned. I sell many kinds of footwear and only a very select few are family owned as of today. Makes a difference.
