I worked in Resolute for 4 "summers" (1975 - 70) while going to university. Looking back, Resolute made a much greater impression on me than I would have thought at the time. I'm glad I had the opportunity.

Wow that's so fascinating! Since this little town is so incredibly isolated, how do people get electricity and basic goods?
@ericksonclayton8 жыл бұрын
Electricity in all of the arctic communities are provided by diesel generators. The fuel is brought in once (sometimes twice for some) each summer by sea when the ice is either gone or thin enough for icebreakers to work their way in. Basic goods are brought in also on the sealift in the summer and other small and perishable goods are brought in by air. Most commercial aircraft up there are combi-flights which means that they block off part of the aircraft so one part is for passengers and the other part is for cargo.
@kjul.8 жыл бұрын
Very interesting, thanks :) This seems like a lot of effort for a few small settlements, but I'm glad these exist, since they hold a totally unique culture.

When I watch a video like this for whatever reason, it makes me wonder how the Inuit & First Nations (Old Crow, Yukon) people survived in these brutal cold windy winters. I know the Inuit built igloo's but still ?
@fellowworker369 Жыл бұрын
They survived because of the seal: seal meat, seal skin for clothing, seal oil for their lamps to heat their iglu called the qulliq.

When I was doing ebay 10-15 years ago I listed a small Primus or Optimus (similar & can’t remember which) camp stove. Winning bidder was in Resolute and I mailed it off to him. A cup full of fuel fills it. He sent a message about it being the best stove to take out hunting on the ice. I have a feeling he will get by somehow, the neighbors on my street not so much.
