The "mathematical" problem is silly. You have just posited that w__av is the width at half height, yet one minute later you decide to use the width at the base instead. For a gaussian probability distribution the width at the base is 4s, when you measure between y=0 for the tangent lines from the largest derivative on each side of the curve, and the width at half height is 2.35s. Thus you need to multiply the width of the individual peaks by 0.589, BEFORE you add them and divide by 2. Which gives you w__a = 8.25. So this calculation would actually give a resolution of approximately 3, not 1,33. You're confusing elements of resolution and plate height in your explanation. So to clarify, your calculation is correct. Your explanation is not.
