I personally think that while his jokes can offend people at times, none of Felix's actions since day one was ever meant to be offensive. Intent and context are key here, as in socio-political commentary and works of satire. And if you really watch Felix, you'd know that he's actually doing a wonderful thing for his audience and for society at large. Things only blew up because the Wall Street Journal deliberately wanted to paint Felix in a bad light and pressure KZbin and Maker/Disney into cutting ties with him. In the article in question, WSJ says that Felix did not comment on the matter. And why is that? Because he was never asked! They only went to him AFTER KZbin and Maker/Disney had already dropped him. And mind you, they went to HIS HOUSE, knocked on his door, and asked him for comment. How unprofessional and below the belt is that? If WSJ really meant well, they would have gone to Felix through the proper channels before going to the brands that he works with. The malicious intent here is plain as day. And can I also point out that NOT ONE NEWS OUTLET has ever mentioned that Felix has raised MILLIONS for various charities over the years? If this isn't a lynching, I don't know what is.

This is ridiculous. I was actually born and raised in Germany with family that have been slaughtered and murdered in WWII. My grandfather had eight siblings, and seven of them were killed. My grandmother's entire village was bombed and she watched as the survivors dug graves for those that died, as a little girl. My grandfather lost an eye along with use of his leg because of the schrapnel that came out of a bomb when it exploded near him. Terrible things happened to my family because of what they believed. My family has lost so much. At the same time, Felix made a joke. We know the intention that he had of the joke, he got a huge whiplash of hate after he made the joke, he was punished, and he did not deserve that. People make jokes about the WWI, the war of 1812, the American Revolution, The Civil War, and about so many situations and instances where something terrible happened. What happened was terrible, and it serves as an example of how sick humankind can be; at the same time, I am not upset and Felix making a joke. Felix's family was in Europe same as mine during WWII. Lord knows what his family has lost along with many others. And even if his family hadn't suffered, anyone with a brain can read the intention behind his words when he made the joke. It was not malicious Neo-Nazi intent. I am here to inform you that intention matters. He made a distasteful joke, and I get it. That's bad. He was told it was bad. He apologized. But making it so that his show is cancelled is absolutely ridiculous.

People in this comments section seem to be confused as to which type of "respect" Mark is talking about, so here's a quote that I think sums it up perfectly: "Sometimes people use 'respect' to mean treating someone like a person, and sometimes they use respect' to mean treating someone like an authority. And sometimes people who are used to being treated like an authority say 'if you won’t respect me I won’t respect you' and they mean 'if you won’t treat me like an authority I won’t treat you like a person.'" Mark isn't saying you have to respect everyone in the sense of seeing them as good people who deserve the same treatment as bad people; he's saying everyone deserves the respect to be treated decently, as a human being, and not as some lesser creature beneath you. Stand against people you believe are wrong, but don't dehumanize them in the process. There are better ways to advocate.

He’s serious but people are saying it’s scary because we usually watch him laugh at poop jokes. He is serious. In this context, it’s not scary. Unsettling, I’d agree with that, but only because we don’t usually get to see this side of Mark. But not scary.

It's hilarious the plethora of people who are attacking Mark in the comments. It infuriates me, actually. Because he's promoting an incredible theme that we should understand deep in our souls and they're attacking this man who also deserves RESPECT and his topic deserves RESPECT. So please, before you pounce on something he says, think for a second before you type that hateful comment, because someday someone will read it and think that it's okay to hate on other people and human decency will shrivel away.

Mark made one point clear (indirectly): Felix is a *person* . PewDiePie is a *comedian* - and at this point it doesn't matter if he is a good or bad one. Comedians tell jokes, they don't advocate. Jokes can be funny, they don't have to. What is funny? That is up to each one of us, because it is subjective. I think, if PewDiePie did something wrong, Family Guy and/or South Park did aswell, these shows just seem more tolerable for some reason, even if they label (sexism, racism, anti-semitism...) in a much more inappropriate way. And if Felix made a mistake, a Seth MacFarlane did make a much bigger one. I'd be glad to hear some input about his from you guys. How do you think about it?
@necronlordoflawtan7 жыл бұрын
Comedy shows and people have been raked over the coals for exactly what happened. Pewdiepie understands and accepts the lashback - he can make mistakes (whether he learns from them or not is another story). However, he also criticized the media for making more of it than there should have been. And media can make mistakes. ...The only party I see as "guilty" here are the Neo-Nazis who benefit from the joke and paradoxically also benefit from media lashing out against Pewds. (And, sadly, also from Markiplier's response - they can now say, "hating me for denying the Holocaust isn't respectful!") It's the adult version of the bully paradigm in school. You say anything, they beat you outside of school. You beat them, you both are in trouble. You ignore them, and they keep finding ways to try to get to you. In truth, you can't stop bullies. You can only choose not to help them...ever...and to always try to help the victims. (The only other alternative is to find ways to end them, permanently, but that way you become a monster to hunt monsters)

The more days that go by, more respect is lost, this is painful to see. People on social media want to find ANYTHING from ANYONES past to find a way to cancel them, when they don't realize how painful that is on someone's mental health. People don't realize that the past doesn't define the present in all cases, most of the time those people have grown into a better person. I love you all. -MoonScape
