Hey Teresa. Thanks for the tips. I worked for a company where I was daily having to deal with microaggression comments. I'm Hispanic and speak fluent Spanish. Though people would always comment and say wow you had a great Spanish teacher or why do you speak so well? As to oppose that if I spoke Spanish as a first language. I must be less intelligent. If I speak Spanish fluently and I am white that I must not be Hispanic. I brought up to HR and they had no idea what to do. What are the best way to address customers when people present bias? Still maintaining professional

That is a hard topic. For me I have found that simply informing people of their misconception is the best way to educate people so that maybe they think twice about their assumptions as they move on. People need to learn. I try my best to fight ignorance with facts.

@@theresarangel7226 I really like your video. But in response to Cat McAlear...Cat is assuming that people must think of her as being less intelligent because Spanish is her first language. Is that not wrong also? And if she does not let her co-workers know she is Hispanic, then should she correct their mistake (which could be an honest mistake)? As a woman who worked in a male-dominated career for a good part of my life, I was not offended when a co-worker complimented my skills in operating a boat or other heavy equipment. But if they said something like "not bad for a girl" I would be offended. We should not make assumptions about what was not said by a person. We should however be open-minded and have a dialogue with our co-workers to address how something said may be perceived by others.

OMG, I've responded to people so many times, "what you said is racist, and it offends me". All they say is "oh, I know that bothers you". Not the right response. But it's so hard to speak up.

I know it is hard, but practicing speaking up is important. Don't give up on letting people know how what they say makes you feel.

I love the sentiment of this, but your comment at 1:15- calling a spade a spade. Really? A microaggression in itself.

I'm sure it was unintentional, but "call a spade a spade" is a racist microaggression. Although the phrase started out as an innocent figure of speech in Ancient Greece, over the years, it became a racial slur and is commonly recognized as such today.

I came to the comments to see if anyone else picked up on this! Oops!
