Timely reminder that Louis Theroux was actually an Executive Producer on this programme and has been online stating how very proud he is to have been involved with this important piece of work. You never got around to expanding on the Whoopi Goldberg issue, but my view is that see did the greatest possible sin in Baddiel's eyes - draw away the discussion, the spotlight, from Baddiel, or whatever Baddiel associates him with. She tried to explain that the Nazis targeted people other than Jews, and with Baddiel and his current attention-seeking, it was a "red rag to a bull'". She viewed the Holocaust as something that was not entirely about Baddiel or the Jews. That homosexual people were targeted, that Roma, disabled, etc people were targeted, and that infuriated the self-absorbed Baddiel.

Whoppi denied the holocaust was about race which unbelievably stupid considering as david pointed out athiest Jews were killed.... and the show was about Jews being excluded from the "progressive" left and not about the holocaust so what you're saying is irrelevant and a obvious deflection instead of just accepting that there's alot of racism and prejudice among the left

Mainstream media company happily was on board with his documentary Funny there is no mainstream media that would ever air Jason lee own podcast episode where baddiel explanation & lame excuses were dissected by lee like a surgeon. The worse thing that mainstream media won't dare to show from the podcast is when lee stated that he was portrayed as a clown from baddiel & Skinner show - Cringeworthy baddiel tells lee during that time when he was targeting him he always knew he was a "good footballer" In another moment baddiel stated he loves women's football ,lee ( who loves and supports women's football and goes to the matches ) just looks at him and says " when did you last go to a women match " To which baddiel stutters and says " never been to one " Baddiel made his apology but he does not sit easy with me because he gives off thev impression that he is still a clueless person on racism as he was in the 1990s when he with Skinner was allowed to bring football terrace racial mockery to prime time TV as comedy Of course baddiel is working things through but baddiel makes me feel uneasy in a way Theresa may made me feel uneasy after her windrush scandal initial denial .

I mostly agree with you and I'm not the biggest fan of David Baddiel but I think the point wasn't to downplay other racisms but to highlight a blindness to antisemitism not in society generally but among progressives. And I think when so many of the Labour Party came to defend Ken Loach when Loach made a play suggesting Jewish people worked with the Nazis in the Holocaust that he has a point.

I can understand that a documentary must have a focus. However, the focus on the left has been the main discussion surrounding anti-semitism for many many years now, whereas I find that anti-semitism which exists in the right and is by and large much more prevalent does seem to get swept under the carpet more because Conservatives are more likely to support the actions of the Israeli government. I literally had a Conservative conspiracy theorist tell me 'he's not anti-semitic, he supports Israel, but Hollywood is run by the Synagogue of Satan'. He still thinks there is a subset of Jews who are in league with the devil and run Hollywood this way. QAnon is a highly anti-semitic conspiracy theory and is genuinely believed by right-wing politicians, it's not just criticism of a regime, and yet again the likes of Baddiel don't want to focus on this. There are innumerable accounts of right-wing politicians making baseless anti-semitic comments, I feel like the media is giving right-wing people a free pass when it comes to bigotry. You could argue that 'you might expect it from them', but why? Why should you expect it from them? It's utterly intolerable whomever it comes from.

'Race refers to the concept of dividing people into groups on the basis of various sets of physical characteristics. ' Judaism is not a race, any more than being Muslim or atheist. Regardless of how many practice, what majority governs a nation, unless you can tell me what the physical attributes of being Jewish are I'm struggling to see the disadvantage. There is also a huge difference between mocking, critiquing and attacking. I wish all beings a peaceful, Free life. Brothers, sisters, comrades and friends, I will fight to protect your freedom. But if it's just being offended by people mocking your religion and cultural practices then... Join the club.

You are wrong about the whole Jason Lee thing being racist. I was an avid fan of "Fantasy Football League", back in the '90s. It was cruel humour and nothing more. Back in those more simple times (from the perspective of a straight, white male in his 40s), what Baddiel did by "blacking up" wasn't seen as racist - however, yes - it is now. I think we have to let some things slide - calling everyone a racist for behaviour that was acceptable/tolerated years ago just doesn't sit well with me, especially if they have now apologised for any offence caused. As an aside, in 1967 homosexuality was decriminalised in Britain. I work with people who were teenagers in '67 and still can't get over that fact. Some of the old fellas have moved with the times and its not an issue at all for them. As anti-gay as this sounds (I'm not anti-gay at all, just to clear that up), can you really blame the ones who aren't prepared to budge on their views? One minute they are being told that something is criminal behaviour, the next - its all ok and fine. Time will change opinions, you can't lambast people for their actions that, in that moment, were seen as acceptable.

The actions were never acceptable. By this logic you’ll say that slavery was okay because it was legal, and how could you possibly blame slave owners for doing something normal? We know what right and wrong is. Even racism aside, Baddiel’s behaviour has been cruel and that of a bully. He was called out in the clip in the video, way back then, for his racism by someone of the time.

Antisemitism isn’t a form of racism. The only way you can be racist towards Jews is if you’re racist against Jews of Color (who sadly in all hegemonic dialogue including among White Jews like myself are often erased).

Would you not consider it to be a form of racism, based on the fact being Jewish has been made racialised by the Nazis, for example? Is it not just another facet of racism, so anything seen as other than white or foreign being despised? I see it being connected to antiblack racism (and obviously often crossing over for black and Jewish people). During the Holocaust it didn't matter if you were religious or not, it was about your birth and parentage. You could be completely non-practicing and still find yourself taken away. Jewish people are seen by many as being a different race. Is it not all part of a wider system or racism where people not considered pure white enough are despised? Jewish people weren't seen as Aryan, they were viewed as a different, foreign faction, and often 'blood' is brought into it, which feels racial to me. I'm obviously not Jewish myself so I'm reading the responses and taking them all in. My main feeling is that even if it shouldn't be racism technically, Jewish people were considered to be a different race, so it became racism. Jews are often hated even when they're not religious. It's something they can't escape. Though I can see how it's difficult when having conversations about intersecting racisms like antiblack racism. I personally see antisemitism as another facet of racism.
