1. I don’t remember Dr Qadhi suggesting going to western countries to learn about established Islamic sciences such as Fiqh and Quran Tafsir...etc instead he explicitly said western muslims problems need to be addressed by western muslim scholars who understand context better than a middle eastern or a Pakistani scholar. He explicitly referenced Ibn Alqayim talking about the importance of understanding the cultural nuances related to the Fatwa. Under this understanding I understood his reference to Newtonian and Einstein physics which to me means for example a fatwa ruling given in an islamic majority country ruled by a king or Shaikh (one set of circumstances) cannot be implemented in a western democratic country (a different set of circumstances) where Muslims are a very small minority ruled by someone like trump and are targets of islamaphobia. Therefore, a well educated western scholar is better suited to give the Fatwa. 2. The issue of Yale vs Madina is taken out of context. The reference to learning how to learn in an ivy league university is not elitist. If anything I personally enjoyed Sajid’s interviews with Daniel Haqiqatu and I enjoyed his way of reasoning. There is nothing wrong with learning from other cultures: early muslim scholars translated and elaborated on Greek works and early islamic sciences were built on Greek, Persian and Indian sciences so my question is why not learn from Harvard or Yale and use the same logical weapons western academics are using against Islam to serve and defend Islam. No one is talking about Fiqh or tafsir or sirah here we are talking about developing our Muslim capability to logically refute people who are attacking us.

It amazes me when people love to jump on someone even when they dont grasp what he said.. YQ said the manmade madhabs that came many years after the sahaba and the middle eastern schools of thought were great for a time and a place but need to evolve and change in some places for western muslims.

It's an analogy lol he's saying he understood more after studying more, using physics as an example. We thought Newtonian physics was everything, but after studying more we realised there's more to it. Which is to mean he learnt more and realised there's more to the picture. It doesn't mean he created a new one, he's saying he learnt more Why read in the worst possible interpretation? I find that unfair.

So we need to balance ourselves... to avoid Taasub and Focus on our Intentions and Understandings.. I watched the video by yasir qadhi and I did not come out of it with the same conclusions as you have. No where does yasir qadhi suggest that we should learn Islam from non-muslims. To suggest that yasir qadhi has completely deviated from the right path is a huge stretch.

Making a comparison of the aqeeda of deen with physics(which is not based upon absolute knowledge but is rather progressive knowledge and ever-changing) is jahiliya in itself and then on top of that calling himself Einstein and other past scholars as of having newtonian understanding is clear as day that he thinks of himself as some sort of reformist and thinks high of himself based om whatever western outlook he got on the deen from yale... As those in yale who don't believe in islaam in the first place definitely have a more materialistic and secular approach towards the deen because that's what they are concerned about the dunya... Remember the deen of Allah wasn't send down to be maimed and distorted so as yo make it to fit into the ideology of some human being's rather we humans have to let go off of our desires and outlook and mould ourselves in becoming a sincere Muslim as per what Allah wants it to be nobody has the right to change it's fundamental to suit themselves

The other brother insinuated that Yasir Qadhi has gone astray. This is a very dangerous conclusion to make without speaking to him and getting answers from him directly. Another important note akhi, a PHD is purely research based qualification. The only thing you learn is how to do research and write an essay basically. The subject i.e. Islam you would learn from your degree and masters which brother Yasir did at Madinah university. He got all his knowledge from primary Islamic sources and NOT from some professor from Yale. Salafi brothers are too judgemental without proper fact finding and research (as ironic as it sounds).

I stopped at 15 minutes in because I think you have grossly misunderstood Dr. YQ points. 1- I do not think he ever said Yale was better than Medina (you went on a tangent about your thoughts, then put it on YQ). His reasoning to go back to the West was not because he thought it was better nor because he wanted to. He felt the NEED to so so that he could support the Ummah in the west (as an American, would you not want to help your fellow Muslims in America?). If you are amongst those that think Muslims shouldnt live in nonMuslim lands, I dont expect you to understand. 2-im pretty sure he mentioned only 1 scholar that told him to go back, but I think you split it into 2 people. Either you weren't paying attention, or it was I. And majority doesnt always mean correct. If 50 people told me to drink mercury to improve my health, but 1 said dont, which would be correct? 3- I think you 2 are a great example of knowledge vs experience. You are thinking of what hes saying/did as though it occurred in a vacuum, and dont provide it context. 4- the physics example was about how there is a time and place for everything. Or are you going to say abrogation is illegitimate? A fatwa in Medina cannot always be applied in America. The muslims of Mecca, Medina. and Abyssinia lived slightly differently. There was so much to comment on in 15 minutes that I forgot some of my points. I wonder what more I wouldve said if I kept watching.

I first of all have benefited plenty from YQ, Alhamdulillah. But very little from you so far, still Alhamdulillah. If you graduated from college of dawah then so far in my humble opinion you do not have the talent 'to inform and to remind' - just yet. But I hope soon you 2 have the ability like YQ to have eloquent lectures on here jammed packed with knowledge and content, inshaAllah. The right methodology, in my opinion, is to ask the disagreement you have to YQ personally and give him the change to answer and clarify. Was he saying it by mistake, intent to insult, or simply joking where he should not, or maybe you took it the wrong way. So you do not propagate things which you 'only assumed to begin with,' and this only make you look bad. Once you establish that then you could speak your opinion. Second, once that confirmed, instead of saying what he said, put on what he said here so I can hear what you referencing to. Because I heard things where I felt 'you said more' on top of what he said. Thirdly it's YQ opinion, and it's your opinion. God knows best.

Just one point,Islam has many evidential based aspects which points you to the truth. In saying that it's about Faith,I find many of the scholars try and explain aspects or events when you can just say I have "Faith" And when you try and explain you get into a knot

Which school of aqeedah should I follow? Ash'ari? Maturidi? Deobandi? Athari? Can anyone answer which one is okay and which one is not, and if not then why.... I am a general muslim, not an 'alim, and should I affirm myself with these? Or I should learn basic aqeedah at first? Are the terms related with scholars with high knowledge specifically in aqeedah, or they ar related to all general muslims? Jazakallah

First, I will advice you to be sincere in seeking guidance from Allah. Make du'aa to Allah guide you to the correct methodology. My advice to you is to follow the Sunnah of the Prophet (صلى الله عليه وسلم) and his aqeedah and the ahlul hadeeth. I can not guide you, only Allah can. So, be sincere in your search for the truth. Allah will not leave his slave who is seeking for guidance astray.

It didn’t make sense to me and now it seems that notion is revealing itself to the public. May Allah guide us. If people love PHDs, please study engineering or other technical/empirical fields from these elite schools; the Muslim community is desperate for experts on science today. When Yasir Qadhi went to do a PhD he didn't intend to learn his deen from yale University. How absurd is it to think that, seriously? If he wanted to learn his deen all over again then he would not be doing PhD as you very well know PhD is a research discipline....

I watched the video and my understanding of what he said was completely different to lots of people who are commenting here. I understood that Dr Yasir Qadhi said that with the current attack’s on Islam, muslims need to stop attacking each other’s schools of thought and should stop regurgitating old theological arguments and should focus instead on confronting the bigger, newer threats that are causing people to abandon their islamic faith. I believe this is a valid point. For example western textual criticism of the Quran is a serious threat that very few people are addressing in a convincing academic refutational manner. He also said people should stop treating scholars like they treat revelations from Allah. Personally my prophet is Mohamed (SAAWS). Neither Ibn Taymya nor Alghazali are my prophets and whether people like it or not scholars are not infallible. What is wrong with that? I believe the job of scholarship is not to blindly read back old arguments (since anyone can read the books and find those arguments) but scholars should address current issues and shubuhat and personally I am trying to find scholars who are doing exactly that. Instead I am finding people who are attacking scholars and each other and not paying attention to muslims loosing their faith because of what western academics are pointing out as discrepancies in Islam using a very sophisticated line of reasoning. What Dr Yasir Qadhi said is that we need new Ibn taymiya’s in the muslim world and we should focus on teaching scholars how to think and learn. What is wrong with what he said. Can someone explain to me if I am missing something?? I am really confused

A course of 3 persons including the instructor, where he admitted that the instructor says he doesnt know anything about Imam Raazi RA and they “studied” - this says a lot about his PhD program, its depth and quality of ‘Islamic’ education at Yale! Wallahu a3lam

He didnt actually deny yahjuj wa majuj He was asking if the meaning was open to some interpritatation. To say the hadith comes across as strange in its apparent meaning is not problematic, but if it leads to denial then its a problem. Within dawa its easy to say to a muslim you must just accept, But when confronted by non muslims You have to go to some extent in explaining the logic of things. He claims to believe in the creation of adam (as) from dust, the creation of the universe from nothing accept the will of Allah, the night journey, rising of the day of judgement etc So hes not a materialist or atheist. So he believes in miracles and the power of allah to do as he wills. The real problem with him and many other da'es is in my opinion is the issue of evolution or rather theistic evolution being preached by so many. Not surprising to see another salafi brother come back from madina and start criticising, rather than adressing the political situation facing the ummah around the world. But thats whats taught in the curriculum, Athari interpritatation of aqeeda as if it was held by the majority of ahulul sunna through out time and distorted politics.

What he is doing is the result of what Aalims and Ulemas in Pakistan warn. Ulemas in Pakistan always insists that no matter what sect u belong in islam you should study through some proper channel and then you are allow to do research. In every field of life when ever we need some specialist we ask first from where you studied, If you r doctor then what medical college you went, who were your teachers, in which hospital you did practice. But now everyone who do self study and read some books and deliver some lectures consider himself as an Aalim. Islam is not for intellect but intellect should submit to islam.

The brothers in this video completely miss this point. I am not sure how Ph.D. programs are run in KSA but in Western academia, it is as you have stated. Most students come to their postgraduate studies with a specific orientation and worldview, they are not rewired and "taught Islam by non-Muslims". They are however pushed towards critical thinking and research as you have stated.

@@maxpaine98 As someone who has tasted both traditional studies and academia, I must say that although the premise of traditional studies is superior (the notion that Allah exists, and the Prophet (SAW) is His messenger), the Islamic curricula has remained stagnant for the past couple of centuries and has not incorporated new methods and canonical texts which a huge setback for the Muslim world. This setback is indicative and perhaps is the causation of our poor state as an Ummah. I am glad scholars like Yasir Qadhi are trying to push the envelop for academic progress.
