The Warmth, Genuine Love for Music and God’s People still resonates through this Gospel Legend Edwin Hawkins. It is STILL SO HARD to believe he’s in Heaven because the Music is Timeless and continues to Bless those who take the time to listen. I personally was first inspired at the young age of 8 as I sat at my parents upright piano and learned his arrangement of O Happy Day while being TOTALLY MEMORIZED by his exceptional Piano playing. I also remember the clip you added from the film "GOSPEL" filmed in 1983 of then a still youthful Dr. Edwin who sang a snippet of the song recorded by Walter Hawkins/Hawkins Family "Going To A Place". I also thought about how Walter and Dr. Edwin could 'hand off' by Lead singing and did so of which "I'm Going Away" from Love Alive II was one of several...thanks SO much Jonathan for the copulation of Songs and photos in Tribute to this Great Gospel Music Legend...R.I.P. Jacqueline Perry I have an original vinyl of the Oh Happy Day. When I purchases a remastered CD version I was so lost. For years I was used to listening to the songs in a particular ordered. It messed up my praise flow. I had to rearrange it to my MP3 player.

I enjoyed the Hawkins for many years. But I am sorry to inform that Edwin did not go to heaven....nobody goes there. Read your bible. Heaven is God's throne. The only flesh up there is Jesus.....and he went to prepare a place for his believers........remember the scriptures says the dead in Christ shall RISE first and those who are alive and remain shall be CAUGHT UP together......so that can't happen if they are in heaven already.....I think the bible is right and somebody got it wrong

Willie Brown. Sorry Willie but that is not the truth. The breath of life, also called air, also called spirit (because you cant see it) is all that left his body and you and I and the animals are currently breathing it since we are still alive. This man is sleeping and if he lived right---- following the laws, commandments and statutes of God then at Jesus coming at the sound of the seventh trumpet and the shout to come forth then he will rise again with his celestial body. If not he will continue to sleep for another one thousand years (the Lord's Sabbath, the Lord 's day of rest) until the white throne judgement where he will be judged by what is written in the books ( the book of life - if his name is written in it, and the bible). That is the truth because that is what is written in the bible!
