I went to uc Berkeley back in late 90’s. Graduated in ‘97 but I still remember Zachary’s pizza cuz I loved it. It was always packed in there. Good memories. So many different restaurants there now

Hi Rachel! Great video! Can you do a video on best places to shop in and near Berkeley if you haven't already? :)
@rachel_lin3 жыл бұрын
Thank you!! Any kinds of shops you are particularly interested in?
@Garfielthecat19973 жыл бұрын
@@rachel_lin maybe you can make categories? Thrift stores, student supplies, affordable stores and places you love!
@rachel_lin3 жыл бұрын
@@Garfielthecat1997 Haha I didn't do too much shopping while on campus, but I usually bought things online. For thrift stores, there is a Goodwill semi-close to campus (take the bus or walk like 20-30 min), I've never been to it though! Closer to campus, there are two popular thrifting places - Buffalo Exchange and Crossroads Trading Co, I've been to both maybe once. I would say they are a little more expensive than your typical thrift store, like "high-end" thrifting. There's another thrift store on Telegraph right next to campus - I can not find the name online, but when you're walking on the streets next to campus you'll definitely see all of the shops. Additionally, there's a thrift store on campus called ReUse, which is a Berkeley club student-run thrift store (reuse.berkeley.edu/). A lot of businesses near campus have actually closed down during the pandemic/other circumstances. Like there used to be a Daiso and Staples near campus where students could buy school supplies or like apartment items at Daiso, but these stores are no longer around. For supplies, there is an IKEA and Costco around, but you would need a car/Uber/Lyft to get to those. Hope this helps! Let me know if there were other things you'd want to know about!

can we use flex dollars there?
@rachel_lin7 ай бұрын
At regular restaurants, no, they do not take flex dollars. At the university-affiliated places, like dining halls, cafes on campus, then you would be able to use flex dollars!

So you're working around campus? How cool would that be! I imagine we'll see an influx of new cuisine once June rolls around and restrictions are lifted. I don't know if I have a favorite restaurant, but I had one bad experience where I found a cockroach in my udon soup at place right off Telegraph and Dwight I believe.
@rachel_lin3 жыл бұрын
I’m working at a law firm in DC, so no longer in the Bay Area 😭 I agree, I feel like some places unfortunately closed during the pandemic, which means new stores will come in. Ah oh no a cockroach! Did they refund you? 😰
@drmarioschannel3 жыл бұрын
@@rachel_lin I complained but I think I was sensitive about getting any cooks in needless trouble by asking for a refund . in retrospect it doesn't make sense but im sure we'll all be in a better place soon. think about all you have to look forward to when you come back :)
@sydneyfessenden61193 жыл бұрын
Unrelated, but I just took the Cal writing placement test and I was wondering does it just satisfy the requirement, or does it also impact your placement in a certain level of writing class? And if so, how many different levels are there that you can start at?
@sydneyfessenden61193 жыл бұрын
Hopefully that made sense lol
@rachel_lin3 жыл бұрын
@@sydneyfessenden6119 Hi Sydney, great question! If you just took the Analytical Writing Placement exam, then you would need an 8 or above in order to satisfy the Writing Requirement (see this website, the last bullet under the Entry-Level Writing section: writing.berkeley.edu/node/78). If you pass the Analytical Writing Placement Exam, I believe it would only satisfy the Writing Requirement. All Berkeley Letters and Science undergrads have to take two semesters of Reading and Comprehension courses. Based on the above website, "Students who arrive at Berkeley not having satisfied the Entry-Level Writing requirement (see above) can satisfy both the Entry-Level Writing requirement and the 1st part of the 2-part R&C requirement by taking CW R1A." There are ways to skip Part A and Part B of the Reading and Comprehension Requirement depending on certain criteria, see this site to see what exam scores qualify for you to skip (lsadvising.berkeley.edu/reading-composition). For example, I was able to skip the Reading and Comprehension Part A because of my AP Exam scores, so I started with Part B when I came to Berkeley. Hope this makes sense, definitely let me know if you had more questions or need clarification :)
