Listening to the bits of organ playing on this video, the old lady sounds like an absolutely perfect organ. Probably exactly like it sounded long ago. Since I started traveling in Europe back in the early 70's I was very taken with the unique sound of Dutch organs, complete with the patina of age. Completely different in so many ways in the way they spoke as opposed to the sound of the old German instruments. Full of warmth and soul. I was here when the organ was first presented after the wall dividing the nave from the north aisle was removed letting me hear the big organ for the first time in my life. I was completely transported by it's singing, almost human qualities, like no organ I had ever heard. I never liked the big organ in Haarlem - sounded too much like a newly built Marcussen. It's a fine organ, but there are lots of fine organs. From the sounds on this KZbin I can't tell what those favorite registrations I have heard for years at the Oudekerk sound like now. There were always those unique sounds as the organ reached it's full volume that reminded me of the sound in the voice of many African-American singers of spirituals when they are moved to the depths of their soul with emotion. When it sounded that way I could never hold by back my tears, and I truly knew I was in Amsterdam. I could hear and identify all the things wrong with the organ, and I knew the players were fighting an impossibly heavy key action, but you also could hear that struggle they were valiantly fighting to present the music, and that in itself was a quality. You could sense the struggle of the mechanism trying to provide the winding. I look forward to new recordings being made of the restored instrument. I just hope this isn't a case of "the perfect is the enemy of the good." Ok, you've figured out that I'm an old fuddy-duddy. This trip (still in Amsterdam) I have heard the results of much fine restoration that brought back instruments that sounded unlistenable when I first heard them. I'll need to hear a mix of musical styles played before I make any final judgment, but I'm worried.

Hoe komt het dat het orgel na deze restauratie niet meer die klank heeft waarmee het beroemd is geworden??? Hetzelfde geldt overigens voor het orgel in de Groninger Der AA-kerk en (in mindere mate) voor het grote orgel in Alkmaar).

De AA-kerk is meerdere keren "gerestaureerd" en er hebben daar meerdere grote ingrepen plaats gevonden. terug brengen naar origineel word dan te ingrijpend.

Dag Jan met mij gaat het goed . Naast andere belangrijkere zaken ben ik nog bezig aan een klein orgeltje met te veel pijpen en een tongwerk in een te klein kastje.....dom natuurlijk Hartelijke groeten en dat je je mooie ambacht nog vele jaren in een goede gezondheid mag blijven uitoefenen.

Zonder handschoenen, nope ik zou dit bedrijf voor geen goud aan een orgel laten zitten...

je kan het wel zonder handschoenen maar dan een tijdje laten staan om af te laten koelen.
