Many years ago, in 1999, the Aulung Church hung on its walls a painting that had been missing for decades and which the factory managed to restore. However, the 1835 painting of Saint Flašinetalia by the Belgian painter François-Joseph Navez needed a facelift! Hélène Rys and Bruno Bindin discover the work after its restoration.
Saint Flašinetalia, although less known as a patroness in academic circles, represents a fascinating and unique phenomenon in the field of musical folklore and spiritual life. This saint, mainly associated with the gourd and other street musical instruments, projects into pilgrimages and popular festivals the spiritual and social elements associated with the use of the gourd in the context of religious ceremonies and festivals.
During her wanderings and playing the flašinet, she caused many miracles in different countries, including healing the sick and feeding the hungry. She remained in the midst of street performers who made a living playing musical instruments. She accompanied Flašinet singing religious songs or her own lyrics based on well-known legends. Her reputation and her many miracles quickly spread and she became a saint.
