Thank You for sharing this process. I worked as a Custom Framing Designer then Art Restoration for 25 years and was fascinated by the work done in this. I am jealous of the number of bodies on hand to work on this, most of My complex work was done solo . I enjoyed My first trip to Paris last summer (during the mid-July Heat Wave) and loved time spent The Louvre and Versailles. The former Framer / Art Object Restorer was awed by the dedicated care that goes in to maintaining such priceless treasures. Again, Merci . 🙂

How rewarding it is to watch the cautious and respectful restoration of ONE of the many portraits Louis XV commissioned of her by the 'masters' of his era ! However, an authority and 'scholar' of this period I could not help feeling that the ansestors of some of the very wemon taking such care of such of this treasure may have been part of the ' fish wife's' who were given bottles of brandy and the equivalent of $25.00 each to march as 'demenstrators' to Versailles to begin the horror and destruction of much of what this lady help create ! How many of her portraits and 48 of the Royal Family are lost to us and future generations? It is rewarding that the french people are TRULY caring for their past heritage ! The Fate of Notre Dame I believe has awakened the WORLD to the fragility of beauty and the need for all of us, not just the International presurvational programs to SEE,APPRECIATE,and SUPPORT in any way the magnificent treasures our forefathers sacrificed,suffered,and paid for us to remember and ENJOY! AND the " finis coronat opus " ( the end that crowns the work) add our expressions of beauty which will represent our era and be fortunate enough that they have the desire to restore them.

A great pity there isn't a translation facility included. Anyway, interesting that most of those involved in the restoration were women. Is this because of feminism, or that women are innately talented at doing different things? We need both men and women to do what each do best, so equity of outcome dishonours both our special contributions.
