Going to the front because the enemy commits atrocities against everyone they put their hands on and they demonstrated interesting into going where you and those you care about live? Well, what do you think the enemy is going to do to your family/loved ones when they get to your city because everyone that could have opposed them thought it was foolish to do so? Keep in mind: medieval setting. Think viking raiders, the massacre at Jerusalem, nobles scheming to get a city excommunicated, so it would lose the church’s protection, allowing the nobles to burn it to the ground with the entire population still inside because they were on the way of his political schemes etc. staying home while the enemy approaches start sounding a bit more foolish than taking them down before they get anywhere near your loved ones, doesn’t it?
