Got mine from a local dump, one of our high schools dropped off a load of model 3's and two of these, the guy at the dump gave me a model 3 and one of the two 102's I wish I had taken two of each,

I still don't understand why old computers like these get tossed in the garbage! What a shame. They could give them away or raise some funds to buy something new. These old computers need to be restored and cherished as they are an important part of our history. Thanks for watching!

The chapter title at 29:35 reads "Testing the restored Yamaha RX5". I believe it should read "Testing the restored TRS-80 Model 100".

Thank you for making the videos so enjoyable for us to watch. Also thsnk you for replying to the comments. I have unsubscribed from youtuberd that pick and choose who they want to comment to and also never looked at the comments
@RetroRepairGuy2 жыл бұрын
@@wallyf7020 I read and respond to all comments and if ever it gets overwhelming, I'll take a day out of the week to do so. I subscribe to some KZbinrs with over 100K and they still take the time to respond to comments or emails, like Perifractic when I reached out to him for help on the Commodore. Unfortunately I can't always respond right away but I do eventually respond to everyone. Sometimes comments get stuck in SPAM by KZbin and I don't see it (don't know why it's random) or when someone replies I don't see it sometimes. I refused only once to continue responding to one person because they started using profanity and insulting me because they did not agree with the way I had repaired something. I love hearing from all of you and it's because of you that I have a show! So thank you!

Great video, both informative and entertaining. Obviously a lot of thought and work has gone into it, and it shows.

My friend, I love your videos. What is the way to learn how repair this kind of electronics. If you make a video with the patch you will have thousands of views!
@RetroRepairGuy2 жыл бұрын
Hi and welcome! I studied in electronics back in the 90s, however if you want to learn today with KZbin there are plenty of free tutorials and a lot of it is just experience. If I were you and want to learn I would pick up old electronic from the garbage or thrift stores and practice opening and seeing how it's made. Especially practice soldering and de-soldering parts. I have a beginner guide on what to try and some tools here you can look at kzbin.info/www/bejne/fpebdXWifZ5opKc Also thank you for the suggestion, I might make a small video just on the modification. Thanks for watching!

Great video! I just bought a model 102 and will use this video as a basis for resto/repair.
@RetroRepairGuy Жыл бұрын
Hi David! It should be essentially the same. The 102 is a little thinner and has a date bug fix. I'm happy the video can help. They are great little machines even today. Thanks for watching!

@@RetroRepairGuy Fun fact, the 102 is completely different inside...it has a horrible ribbon cable between the keyboard (& screen) and the MB, and removing the keycaps is also more difficult. Wah.

@@DavidPlass Oh no! 😪Sorry never opened a 102 before thought it would be the same. Thanks for letting me know!

@@DavidPlass Awesome! You'll see much better than a tiny battery and will last longer.
