How clever, pragmatic, and determined. Those women worked VERY hard to keep the chateau. My hat off to them. I'm so grateful you are fighting to protect and restore it, both the ancient and the recent. This is a wonderful glimpse into the past that deserves to survive and be known.

Love this sweet, unique cheatau. Enjoyed its history, your efforts, and fight with the France historical dept .. love the scalped wood, the attics that looked cavernous and round courtyard. The neat 14th century roofline into the slate covered other section .. What a dedicated team to restore this wonderful historical site .. 👏 Bravo on all your efforts

I would absolutely love to do this! However at 79, my ability to walk unassisted is not up to the challenge. Fifty-one years ago, in the Spring, I spent 8 weeks in Greece, Turkey and Israel, visiting archaeological sites and ancient cities. It was a wonderful experience. I'll have to enjoy Algeria from afar. Have a great time!

I most certainly appreciate you saving this unique manor. And thankfully you are endeavoring to keep a fair portion of it as original as possible. I must say though, I absolutely loathe your modern interjections. When the ancient and the modern collides, it only becomes a giant wreck.

Use the large barn to create exclusive hotel rooms, this could pay for the castle partially, and charge a small free to visit outside guests. Create a stable with horses and do rental / horse back rides on the property. Do medieval festival with old trades and charge the stand holders. Use a piece of land to grow authentic crops, sell those use the kitchen to make and sell "castle pie" or "castle bread" or whatever is the tradition in the area . just a few

Love all these ideas! And please please more videos of everything you are doing! Some daily youtube channels make a great deal of money, albeit mostly by advertising. Daily tours of the grounds during the changing seasons, restoration work of course, and even maintenance of such a marvelous property would no doubt be welcomed and valued by the global community. Wishing Treasures to Everyone who contributed to this passionate dream of honoring the past and reclaiming beauty for the future.

It's amazing to me that the authorities wouldn't want them to restore features from the 13th century when it's still there ready for conservation. I guess the idea is that architecture from the 18th century is more technically stable, both in age and construct. It would be hard to sell a wood and plaster house from the 16th century as a safe living space.

What a gorgeous building, and what an outstanding and sympathetic restoration. Amazing how controlling the authorities are - I'm all for the protection of historic buildings, but this absurd insistence that the restoration must be to the 17th c condition seems absurd and reductive.

It is amazing to see so much history that is sitting around rotting away in the EU. Why do people just ignore it? I have seen great old homes sitting with the original furniture inside that is hundreds of years old….abandoned!!! They contain historical documents of the original family and of the people that surrounded the great mansion. It is difficult to understand why the people of France and other EU countries just ignore the fact that their history is decaying around them. It seems as though the EU bureaucrats would rather see the history of Europe just disappear as they create the culture that they believe is better. Everyone can learn from history and should have the right to decide for themselves if they accept or reject the past. The past is the past. Most people want the truth! There are always people who try to rewrite history or make it disappear. No one should be allowed to do that. Why are they modernizing this beautiful castle? I don’t like modern furnishings in an ancient building. Sure you need electricity and plumbing but that can be done very discreetly. There are enough old mansions and chateaus sitting around full of very old antiques to be able to fill that building with and more. The massive amount of wood furniture being wasted away is outrageous. It could be refinished if need be although much of what I have seen needs very little restoration. That would draw people! An ancient castle with beautiful old furniture is what people want to see. Who is going to pay to see a castle restored to look like a modern building that anyone can go to? Not me.

It's obviously not been kept in the same family for all these years. The government themselves were the ones to brick up that beautiful entrance. There are probably photos of it in the 1850s showing it more beautiful then it is today.
