Restoration of our LaPavoni Professional. Finally, without the chalky deposit i got nearly perfect espresso. Therefore I just need to practice my barista skills. :)

Very nice video! Just picked up a 40 year old Europiccola, needs new seals.and a good cleaning, and the base under the drip tray is even more rusted than yours. Planning to clean it up and paint it. Nice to know about the use of phosphoric acid to clean up and stop the rust before priming!

Hi, sounds like a good plan ☕ :) Phosphoric acid is used to react with the rust. Cause with sanding you won't get all particles removed. And it could start getting rusty again under your new paint application. Good Luck with the restauration. 👍

@@flexdahill Yeah, I used a lot of it... I don't think I got all the rust, and there are actual small holes in the part under the drip tray. This poor thing was badly neglected over 30-35 years... Limescale was so bad it ate the heating element up. I figure the base will last at least another decade with the paintjob and care, and I can replace it at some point. Got seals and a heating element on the way, by next week I'll have it rebuilt!

Great video. I am about to attempt to refurb a La Pavoni Professional in very similar condition. Did you do anything to clean up the chrome (that you didn't paint) besides soak in citric acid. Is there anything else that can be done to clean, perserve, or protect the chrome? I'd appreciate anyone's ideas. Also, does anyone know were to get a full gasket kit that includes grease?

I've never changed my boiler base gaskets (looking to soon), but I was reading that you have to torque the boiler ring on really hard with a dedicated tool. How did you tighten yours, and does the boiler swivel when the machine is hot? Thanks for the great video!

Hey, wich gaskets do you mean? (time in the video?) But i just tightend everthing like I showed. So no special tools or too much power where used. Nothing is lose and no swiveling :)

Any tips on removing the tank? It moved a few millimeters and seems to be stuck now. Rotating counterclockwise...

Should be easy to remove. At least in my case. Everything removed there is just the tank in a plastic thread.🤞

Best video I've ever seen re La Pavoni. I get a lot of steam leakage from the "oval" group head (held on to the boiler by 2x 14mm nolts). I had assumed there was a gasket in there as I am unable to tighten the 2x 14mm bolts any more yet still get vast amounts of steam and spluttering water from this joint. Any suggestions? Do I just put a liberal coating of silicone food-grade grease on the two faces here for example? Also I need to replace the gasket the boiler sits on - can I just unscrew the boiler or do I HAVE to tinkle with the electrics and remove the heating coil the way you did?

Thanks :) With a new gasket it should be sealed, but yes the original one is quite thin, so maybe you can get a thicker one somewhere. (Food- and heat-compatible) And just make a foto of alle the cabels before you take it appart so you can reassamble everything, cause I think that makes the job easier as well as the cleaning.

Hi, until it is clean :) depends, may take a few hours or a day. It helps as well to heat the acid a bit, just not boiling.

Great video! I read that citric acid can be bad for the chrome finish, is this true? I have already taken my La Pavoni apart and don't want to damage anything.

I wouldn't know that there is any effect on chrom, but better check again. :)

Excellent! I just miss one thing: is there a way to remove the water level indicator glass mounts? The ones above and below it. There are some nuts inside the boiler I can't access.

in the cold citric acid water bath, the very chalky parts won't to be clean. So I had them for around 2h in hot water (around 80°). That works fine! :) I just forgot to film that part. I don't really remember how much I used. But I think that will just change the time, you have to wait for a good finish. Good luck :)
