This is almost identical to my first television set. I had one that was just a smidge updated. I was born in the 90s. I’m glad that you are a good cyclist. I would have been scared of balancing this and falling off, smashing the tube. Beautiful restoration. I once, of necessity (poverty), pulled a 1970 Sony colour TV of similar size out of a dumpster. In the U.K.. It has been rained on, but I knew it had only been rained on once. It was winter. I put it near my heater and left it there for a month. Then I plugged it in and stood well back. Turned it on with the help of a broom handle and some tape. It worked. It had no sound. I knew to heed the warnings about the discharge from the tube capacitor, so I took it to a TV repair shop. He repaired the sound for £40. He said; “Did your TV ever get wet”. I was honest with him. He was fine about it. Back in 1990, to have a nice Sony colour TV in the U.K. for just £40 was great. 😊 📺. Since then I have repaired CRT IMacs. I’m still always worried about capacitor discharge. I use welding gloves, car jump starter cables and Earth the capacitor to my metal central heating radiator. Beautiful job here cleaning up the circuits and transformer. They really don’t make them as good as this anymore, but you do 👍👍😊

Unlike today Samsung was a manufacturer of cheap and simple electronics. I wonder where in the world there was a market for table top b/w sets in the mid 80ies - not even in Eastern Germany. Maybe as a monitor for my ZX81 :-) Nice to see how light weight and simple such a device is. Thanks for preserving it for future generations :-)

I really applaud what you're doing here. Samsung, LG (Gold Star) and a few other brands started making the cheap TV sets that were sold as store-brand TV sets in North America. Samsung was behind the $99 black-and-white 12" TV set that every teenager of the mid-1980s wanted. Eaton Viking? Sears Electronics? Candle? They were always Samsung or Gold Star sets. I'm glad for the prosperity of Samsung and Gold Star now and I am glad to see someone preserving their early products. Dude, you plugged it in and turned it on and off about a million times. - Open and inspect first, especially when there are missing parts like the antenna jacks. - You would have seen the water damage, bad capacitor, and bad fuse if you had opened up the set prior to testing. - Filaments take time to heat the cathode(s) of the CRT. You will see NOTHING on the screen until the CRT is warm, and in the case of most later CRT sets, that means the horizontal output stage must be working for high voltage, CRT filaments, and even power to the audio amplifier. - If the set is black-and-white and it's not glued, just take the yoke off the CRT. If the set is color, don't move the yoke on the neck at all.

I remember this time, when Samsung was known as a cheap brand. I had one of those little B/W TVs back then, and later had a color Sears TV that was made in 1976. That thing kept on running and never gave any problems. Today Samsung makes some of the best TVs out there now, along with the best smartphones. They've come a long way.

A load of work that was more a repair, re-build & modify. Since no manufacturing is done for TV picture tube now, these sets including colour will become increasingly collectable. @@charlieretro Computers were really the only beige things back then. I had never seen a beige/yellow TV. But, it's his TV. To @Forever Computing 's point, though. it's like it just chucked a thick layer of paint over the dirt and chrome. It was sloppy, when so much of the rest of the fix was quality work.

The very first color TV set I bought brand new was from Sears. It was in 1981 it was a remote portable. It looked like the Samsung featured in this video. The cost, about $550.00. It replaced a $20.00 b&w garage sale set. I started working in 1969 and it wasn’t till 81 that I could afford a nice car, apartment, and a color tv. Man I thought I was the s____!

Great job man i like that!, Maybe try to restor an old 70,s 8 track tape recorder, or an 8mm film camera, or a pick-up /recordplayer
