Mike, I’m really enjoying the process of your restoration, keep it up. Here’s a little suggestion, it would be great if you could list the producers that you use in the notes of each video. Thanks again. 👍👍

Us non schmucks really enjoy watching what your doing and all the hard work you do and tips n shortcuts that effectively work !!! Thanks. Because I realize (like they don't seem to), you don't have to do these videos. I'm sure you have better things to do. LIKE Restoring your bus's n beetle's in peace !!

Since the 80s, I've always used a 2qt pressure pot for car painting. It's nice just to have the gun and no paint in your hand. You can choke it down to almost an airless too for getting in those tight spots! Devilbiss JGA-502. Cheers!

I am learning a whole bunch from you. Pay no attention to the negative comments. If I do not learn from people like you, that is willing to share what you know, I wouldn't be able to have an older car to fix it. I do it as a hobby, and drive them for a year or 2 and sell it (i.e. loose money, but I know I was able to put something back on the road). Please keep on making these videos.

Rambus was from Denver Colorado and they undergoated it with a tar based goop! There was places that popped off easy and under it it still shined. Other places that stuff was stuck and was tary . There it was a b-tch to scrape it off. The tar type undergoat is good stuff. and I have been working on Rambus for over 35 years????and counting!

Mike.....you've got a hell of a job ahead of you. I've done 4 of these old buses and I'd rather take a beating than do another one. Just DON'T SELL the thing when you're done. I'd sure like to have one of the buses I've done now......and I'm too damn old to do another. Like the shirt....goes with the old VDub.....LOL.

yea I feel you on that. I fought it for a while before I started this project. But I really wanted to share with others how I do them so people can learn from it. It is a heavy chore to do one. Then came the bucket truck. I had offered to buy it before I got this one but my buddy without me knowing was relying on me buying it too. Well after this I think I am cruising for a while. I will drive it for a while before I sell it but. I also will keep the other ones I have. So I will have at least one.

I wonder what that guys KZbin channel looks like showcasing the work he does? Oh wait he probably doesn’t have a channel and if he does he isn’t filming his work because if he was he wouldn’t have time to talk shit about other people. The keyboard warriors love to talk because anyone who actually does this work knows how hard it is and respects anyone who is willing to diy. I always appreciate your dude because you actually get the projects done. It’s so much better to get these cars running and driving and enjoying them instead of it sitting in your yard. Much respect. I learn a lot about how to get shit done and motivated to try it myself. I’m intimidated by paint but there is enough people on here that I think o can give it a try on my bug. Cool thing is no matter what happens it will look better then what’s on there now. Jaaa😁 So I can’t really mess it up and I think I will have fun and learn a lot.

Nothing is cringeworthy here. This is down and dirty, pragmatic, QUALITY work. Everyone except the truly dedicated home builder will go dead in the water ( run out of money, enthusiasm, space, time) or get over their heads trying to build a beauty Queen. Mike has years of experience and I’m thankful to learn all that he shares. His work is of superior quality and you won’t go broke trying to replicate his results. This L87 Pearl White Westy(?) is BAD ASS. And I LOVE IT. He is 1000 percent correct in that it’s a vehicle to be very proud of. I said it before, and will say it again: If you knew NOTHING about the van or it’s starting condition, you’d think it was a very pampered original bus: IT IS NOT OVER THE TOP , but it’s PERFECT for what it is....an everyday guy’s dream ride. I know it’s mine😎!

Hi Mike, I am from Germany and also watched all videos on your 67 T1 Bus due to a surgery on my an right wrist. With my right hand fixed till end of December I looked forward every morning to watch a new episode. You do an amazing Job! VW restores T1 also in Hannover. They start at 250k€ when done (unfortunately only in German). Question: would it make more sense to get a T1 from Brazil with less, less Rost?

Hey Mike, I really enjoy your videos. You're super talented. I know the Brazilian buses are frowned upon, but I have a 67, 11 window that I had rebuilt from ground up using German parts as much as possible. New custom 1776 put in. It's really nice bus. I bought it for 22k put in 25k. I kinda wish I had a German, but what are your thoughts on a 67 and earlier Brazilian? I think the 70's splits are a bit strange, but I sure do get a lot of love driving mine around. You must have so much money in tools! Man oh man. Thanks again for such a cool channel.

mike, what is the product you used ? Could you put it in the header of the video or in notes section ?? Is it two steps tp treat the underside ? I was thinking about sandblasting underneath, this sounds a lot better than that...Is there a converter first then the satin black ?? I have used SEMS chassis - rust preventative and satin black, does a nice job.

I know your instinct is to Spray the paint but I’m wondering if for the engine compartments you might try rolling and tipping the tight area ? I lived in Florida for many years and i worked on many boats and Yachts in Marinas where Spraying wasnt always a option so we often rolled and tipped arras like a crowded engine room and you can really get a spray look with the right lighting and patience often we used Imron and Awl grip paints ? Your beating yourself up way too bad on your Spray job keep in perspective its a Engine compartment On a driver not a Semantic car

I did roll the backsides of the metal with the rust treatment. I got it all painted pretty well. Got it pretty well covered by using the pinpoint and projecting the paint and clear into the troubled areas. Totally agree about that it is an engine compartment and does not need to be spectacular.

Even if some don't like how you're doing the van I have a hard time believing they can't use a lot of the techniques you show. Not everyone is going to butt weld every joint. If someone can restore a 50+ year old car and not use any filler then 1) I don't think I believe it and 2) you'll spend a lifetime finishing the car.
