Meet Glenn Morris, General Manager of Figtrees Organic Farms, producers and marketers of award winning organic beef from the award winning properties 'Wilton Park' at Grafton & 'Billabong' at Inverell in New South Wales, Australia.
Glenn has spent more than two decades observing, studying and thoughtfully managing the diverse ecosystems in his care. His keen eye led him to question traditional management practices, search for sustainable solutions and put them into practice.
Not only has he earned a Masters in Sustainable Farming but more importantly Glenn is on the ground 'walking the talk' with a blend of biological and organic farming principles combined with Holistic Management practices.

Very interesting talk. Grazing management coupled with using adapted cattle is key to making such a system work. Been trying this in my part of the USA for years and always intrigued by the experiences of other practitioners.

Highly encouraging to hear Glen talk about his management techniques. We're seeing this from more and more farmers in Australia. I grew up watching landscapes erode and become non-arable. To see so many more thousands of hectares regenerate is heart warming. Thank you. I see a future problem, a good problem - what will happen to all this excess water?

How do you feel about the Fire Eradication Precautionary measures that distribute Fire Ant baits from a helicopter. I oppose this and I would like to know if you would still be classed as having Organic beef.

New south Wales is a fairly wet climate zone. But what about those vast semi-arid ranches in the outback?

In a very dry area one might only graze a particular spot 12 or 24 hours once every 18 to 24 months and get the same results. Perhaps it is easy to see that these dry area take more time to recover but still in just one 18 month rest the production/ number of livestock will often double. Eventually perhaps in 10 years 4 times more cattle might be grazing on land getting only 9 inches of rain.

Given the regenerative planned grazing started in arid areas of Africa it could easily work. It's not something done by formula, it's done very specifically to the area it's being applied to, what it can handle it, how much rest it needs, how much grazing it needs. There are farmers in central Australia successfully applying these form of regenerative agriculture.

160000 litres per hectare... that's 16mm. So each one percent of humus absorbs sixteen mm of rain.
