In this episode, we are going to talk about how to deal with intrusive thoughts related to losing control and accidentally hurting someone. Intrusive thoughts are unwanted and involuntary thoughts that are disturbing and uncomfortable. These thoughts often lead to a great deal of stress and anxiety for the person experiencing them.
As a reminder, intrusive thoughts do not reflect nor define the person’s true desires or wishes; rather, they are intrusive and unwanted which usually means they are the opposite of the person’s true desires.
In this series, we will be addressing various specific intrusive thoughts that people experience. In this episode, we will discuss how to deal with intrusive thoughts about losing control and accidentally hurting someone. Click here to get instant access to the workshop: restoredminds....

Thank you for this video. I’ve never commented on a KZbin video but felt it necessary after I watched this. I cried as I watched this video because I felt you were giving me such peace of mind and speaking to my soul. I work with a therapist and have explained my intrusive thoughts to her but it’s so hard to work through the shear overwhelm of feelings when I get them. I once had a thought of ‘what if I got a knife and stabbed my daughter and myself’. I cried the entire night and told my husband in shame. I love my daughter and was mortified that I could have such thoughts. When I hear commercials that discuss suicide I get thoughts of ‘what if I [insert suicidal action]’ then I ruminate on the fear of doing such an action and get filled with anxiety that it might actually happen. I’m going to check out your website and thank you so much for this video and your work you have no idea how this video impacted me!

How’s it going?

@@Uk-un7jz thanks for asking. I continue to work with my therapist and try to focus on all the random thoughts that come into my head. One day after raining I was walking down the street and had the thought/urge to jump into a puddle I was walking past. It passed and I kept walking. I don’t attach to those random thoughts because they’re benign. My therapist says lots of people get intrusive thoughts and I need to accept them as they are and accept that a thought does not equal an action. I do still struggle with the guilt of just having some thoughts (like the one I had in my original post) though. Even though they come and go quickly just the fact that I had such a horrible thought (as brief as it may have been) I still feel quit a bit of guilt with it. That’s what I’m working with now.

I heard a disturbing story about someone who took her life back in February and it triggered the most horrible intrusive thoughts and so much fear. It seems like all my intrusive thoughts evolve around the fear of becoming like this person. Basically losing my mind and doing something tragic. I’m so tired of it. It’s attacking the most precious things in life to me.

@@astha2775 hey! its good to check on each other and i am super glad your so open about your experience. As someone who has had terrible and terrifying thoughts i can say that it gets better, in my experience things don't get easier. You get stronger and smarter about it. These thoughts are usually a outcome of a distress, stressing over one thing or another that you might not even realise, bottled up thoughts of anger etc. Facing yourself in your problems is hard and takes time but its really an effective way. If you can i would seek out professional help if possible, it can't hurt to. But do your homework and have faith! Faith is what helps me keep going, on the outside I'm like everyone, everyday i have terrible moments i could never describe that make me feel so hopeless and scared. But they aren't reality, you learn your better then to have those and you move on from them and they fade away. Its not fast, its not easy but it does. Stay true to yourself in the ways you want, don't back down from your goals and have Faith. Seriously even having a pendant that reminds you of having faith can empower you so much more then you think. Live life how you want :) If you are having the thought that you don't want this, then your already there you know this isn't good, its not what you want, be a bit selfish and just use the faith of knowing its not what you want to comfortably continue life knowing its not what you want and you don't and aren't going to have it ruin your life. Push on! Ghost it, ignore it like a bad boyfriend until it fades into obscurity until its out of your life for good or use it as a interesting topic to catapult off into other things like expression via music or art. It can be in your life if you want it to be, you can take advantage of it as much as you want, you don't have to have it. Have faith, know others have gone through this and made it out of it untouchable and that as long as you know what you want you can get it with enough time and effort and you'll find it won't be alot in the long run if you start now :) best wishes to you! from someone who carries the same weight :)

@@astha2775 seek medical help if at any point you feel in danger. You must if it actively disrupts your relaxation, learning, work etc. especially if you have made the point to spend the time, resources and effort possible to remove it and its not. but just because you get that medical help doesn't mean you can't help yourself either! it might come off as everyone is doing drugs to sustain there urges and blah blah but if you truly dont want to, which is the admirable thing to do you can always decline that offer and continue with the programs, talks and techniques that medical mental facilities already rely on for there patients. if you don't feel any danger in those moments just remember these things make us stronger in the end, we become more grateful and endurant because of these hardships. In tough times where others might fault, you'll come out still standing because you have dealt with these issues. Have the self respect to stick up for yourself and how ever you go about it i'm a completely sure you'll be more then satisfied with how things turn out :)

This is so helpful thank you. All of a sudden last year at 35 I had these thoughts. I was freaking out cuz I obviously had no idea what was going on. It felt like you were on a bad high (I've only had 1 bad trip in my life), constant bad thoughts. I've NEVER had any sort of mental health issues. I thought there was something seriously wrong. Now a year later, the thoughts still come, now that I know what it is I'm better at handling it, but Jesus is it so annoying and heartbreaking. I keep praying it will go away. I wanted to mentioned, my hormone levels were jacked a the time, so anyone out there, it's worth a try to look into your hormone levels.

This is happening to me. What kind of hormone test do I need to do? How do you feel now? Did you take medicine?
@dec23
@dec23 Жыл бұрын
@@sindyandrade8375 Hi there. I'm so sorry you are going through this. Just know your feelings are valid. I would also speak with someone you trust on what you are going through. I had the doctor check my estrogen and testosterone as well as vitamin levels. The hormone that was high for me was DHEA - so then I went to a specialist. He said we'll test again in a few weeks, when we tested again, my hormone went down. it was very odd for him, he said he never saw that before. The only thing they prescribed me at the time was Hydroxyzine - it's basically an allergy pill that calms one down, it's NOT an SSRI. That was last year. Sometimes I still get odd thinking but seeing as I know what it is, I can ignore it much better now and know that my thoughts are not true. I also suspect it could have been the after effects of either covid or the vaccine. I never had any sort of problems with intrusive thinking. I would do research on what intrusive thinking is. Once you train your brain on what it is - the thoughts won't feel as fearful anymore. It's like you're telling your brain "yeah, I already know that thought, it's bs and a lie, it will pass" and it does pass. I hope this helps.

When these thoughts happen , why does my mind become foggy ? Like unable to think rationally? Can we make the story created around intrusive thoughts defective?
@MarvelousSquad

this happens to me, sometimes the “fog” last a few hours or days. the way i view it is it’s a flight or fight response from the anxiety and fear you’re experiencing. it’s like your brains way of fighting trauma, trauma doesn’t only come in physical ways like war or a car crash or being shot or whatever, trauma can come mentally too. when we are experiencing intense anxiety, fear, and panic, it can be traumatic and your brain creates this foggy strange sensation. it sucks a lot because that honestly makes things worse for me, i get paranoid and scared that i’m “going crazy” when i get this fog, but it’s really not. but it’s very hard to understand that when it’s happening

So far so good. Basically I find the video informative and educational, though not fully. At some point (about 3:19 in the video) you make the comment saying something along the lines of 'I have never acted on it.' Uh, yeah. So far, thus far in my journey of life, I have not. Now, add people who PROVOKE me like certain people I am SUPPOSED to love and care for that think it is obviously cute to test my patience and provoke me, I must admit, I dont know what I will do. It isn't like I have not nicely explained this to them before either. Perhaps out of morbid curiosity they wanna provoke a reaction out of me. I have encountered such types in my travels and one thing you cannot deny, is people change. At this point I don't know what I am capable of but it is frightening to me that two people know all the right buttons to push with me. Deep down I think maybe they want to see me flip out. I'll stay strong as long as I can.

Acceptance, persistence and practice. OCD only attacks those who are way smarter than they think they are, those who are peaceful and kind. Your reaction to the intrusive thought the first time it popped to the mind was abnormal which caught the subconscious attention, your brain enters then into the state of hypervigilance or overvigilance that triggers heightened chemicals to go back and forth around, this spikes anxiety and panic attack because your brain responds to non existential dangers, so you guys get to ruminate about why it happens or might even do mental patterns and rituals to alleviate tension and convince yourselves that nothing wrong is happening which is the case, just remember that OCD thoughts did never, and will never happen, so why mentally torment yourselves over trivial things, if you kept being afraid of the thought or its répercussions, you'd never feel eternal freedom and inner peace, face your fears head on by resonating figuratively with them, and they will fade away. Those who are violent and suicidal wouldn't ever be anxious or in a constant mental torment, because that's them, but you guys are uncharacteristic of such thoughts, so it is quite benign to react to them this way, but that's how the brain is, treat it just like a little boy, once more, nothing wrong will ever happen even if you didn't break the tormenting cycle of OCD for 10000 years, still will you be intact but with only absurdly ridiculous amount of mental pain, so be like "oh that's me, ok I will do it, no problem", don't compulse to relieve anxiety, ignore it and OCD shall retreat into the shadows where it belongs

I live in a hostel. Every time I come out of my room , I capture a photo of mine by mobile to confirm that I am well dressed and I keep my mobile recording on to confirm that I said nothing wrong. I capture photo when closing the door and while locking it. My gallery is full of these pictures. I try to stop these but if I stop I start overthinking. What if I did wrong. Consequences might be painful. Every thing I do the whole day I keep recording it .
