I enjoyed your video. I used to restore old rolls-royces for a retired lieutenant colonel is south Florida. You may want to start to use ground Walnut shells for your sandblaster, you may find you'll have a better texture with paint removal. Also you can use synthetic beads additive you only put about 80 ml in with your sand mixture but you have to change it regularly. So many guys continue to use their sand Reservoir not realizing that it is filled was rust in all kinds of junk.

I'm not a fan of those kits, the oxidation will return much sooner than later... You're better off using Meguirs 200 Cut with a wool pad, then polishing with 100 Meguires polish and a foam pad. I've used your method and it lasts 1 week before oxidation starts, my current technique lasts 1 yr before it needs a rebuff and polish.

Your lenses are still blurry, they may look ok, but they are not. Bmw e30's and e34's are known to have weak headlight from factory, that's why people put xenon or led lights inside. To restore them properly you need to polish the lens inside, and redo the nickel coating inside. I have seen people do this, the difference is huge. Keep up the good work, I enjoy your videos as e30 owner and fan.

There are two different Headlight Manufactures BMW used on the E30 - Hella and Bosch. Hella used plastic Reflectors on their Products, which are rubbish and weak. Bosch on the other hand are from Metal and their chrome on the Reflector will last for ever. The Headlights in this Video are from Bosch, so there is no need to redo any coating. Just a little wipe and there are clean and shiny. On the Hellas this is not possible.
@tygrysisko5 жыл бұрын
@@RestoreIt I wanted to state the very same thing but Josip was faster. But I would add something about polishing glass: you should use the cerium oxide. It is sold as powder and does much better job than any polishing compound mainly designed for paint.

Here's a suggestion for the next time you need to remove dents and dings from light guage metal objects. Use a drill press with a punch or panhead bolt chucked up. It allows exact pressure to push the dents out without stretching the metal even more like a hammer does. Works really well on stainless and aluminum. Nice editing!

The sad part is that bmw can charge more for components of parts than the entire parts themselves. On my z3 M Coupe I had some dead bulbs in my third brake light. BMW only sold the special bulbs in a $130 pack but the whole light was 110. I wound up desoldering all the incandescent bulbs and replacing them with 17,000MCD LED's and a huge resistor that barely fit in the housing, for a grand total of eight bucks. We gotta get you a powdercoating setup. Powdercoated parts can withstand so much more wear than paint, and you clearly have the skill and detail oriented drive to pull it off. That 3M headlight kit is damned magic for a home mechanic who doesn't have specialty tools. Properly fixes hazing for good with minimal material removal (I've gone back over the sanded light with a thin layer of clear coat and then polished that to build back up a thin lens) but if it's still in the car, be careful to mask off the paint because the sanding discs are quite aggressive. Wet 4 ought pumice is a great way to get that final optical polish on a glass lens. I'd guess the white stuff is a lamination layer or UV, but those lenses don't look like safety glass so i don't know. Did you just degrease or did you condition the plastic shrouds too?

How couldn't you find stock headlight lenses or reflectors? There aso many of them. It's only hard to get yellow hellas or black boschs. Or not even hard, but expensive. The normal headlights are cheap and available, even single parts of them.
@ДенисДенисов-т6п7у5 жыл бұрын
Bosch is not the best choice. We must put Hella. They glow better by 20-30% Diffuser (glass) is better to use Hella. The most important thing in the headlights is the reflector. It is better to replace it with used one, but in good condition. Most often reflectors fade from the use of lamps, high power.
@MrRowan-fl7xz5 жыл бұрын
The white stuff on the inside is removable, just use some brick sand that u use for making cement for bricks. use that sand in combination with some water, put is in the headlight, and shake it for like 15 minutes. wash it out and let it dry for like 2 hours. when dry your headlights are clean and 100% clear. i do this for years now, please make sure to test this method, and let me know about the result.
