Bro you make it look so easy to take the wheels off. It took me 4 hours of some elbow grease and wd40 to get the lower wheel off. I don't even want to mess with the top 1 after that hassle

Thanks for sharing. I just brought home my grandfather's saw that is a slightly older model, but this was helpful in figuring out the blade guide assemblies. It's been been rusting in a barn loft for 15 years. So lots to cleanup. But it's running smooth now. I was able tofind replacement bearings on Amazon for about $15. Also new tires and blades.

I picked up the same model a few months ago, from a 90-year-old guy who bought it new. Even had the original manual. It needed some cleaning, new tires, etc. but it's good to go now. There are 14" saws that cost 5-10X as much new that don't have the 6" cutting depth of that old 12" Craftsman.

Thanks for the video. I recently purchased one of these models, and it needed a clean-up. Did you notice that you installed your motor ends with one turned 180 degrees out? Your oil ports should be in the up position.

Having this saw saw this is awesome and has everything I need to fix up mine, except of course 1 thing. Is there a way to adjust the belt from the motor to the saw? My saw has no power and the blades stops if I try to cut anything thicker than plywood or try to do a sharp curve.

The next time you take a motor or alternator something like that put some wittiness marks on it first. As I was watching your video I keep telling you to watch where your oil caps were but you did not listen to me!!!! the oil caps are in the same line. That way you can oil them together at the same time. I thought you might see that when you had the motor turned on its side but guess you missed that. " WITTINESS MARKS" my friend. Also go easy on the oil for the moving parts as it will attract saw dust. Maybe just a good cleaning like you did with the wire bush is all you need. Just a thought on my part I could be wrong on that. After you have used it for awhile take a look and if you don't have any build up then you did the wright thing. GREAT LOOKING SAW. New bearings and new tires NEW SAW. NICE JOB Scott Helm
@northchaser51635 жыл бұрын
Good note. Didn't consider keeping the caps aligned at the time of filming. Was preoccupied with clearing the sawdust out from the inside of the motor so keeping them aligned on reassembly must have slipped my mind. Good idea, if I do future motor restorations I'll be sure to put alignment marks on the motor bells and body.

Your video is very helpful. I have a very similar saw that I want to restore. Where did you find the new parts, particularly the blade guide parts? I haven't been able to locate any on the internet.
@northchaser51634 жыл бұрын
The only parts I replaced on the saw were the tires and the tensioning knob, all the others were just kinda cleaned up. However the guides in the guard are often called "cooling blocks" and you can find them from various suppliers in varying sizes.

2 questions sir. What state are you located, and do you work on the equipment of others? I just picked this saw up yesterday and it can use a tune up just as you have done. When it comes to this type of work I’d rather just leave it to someone who knows there stuff. Chances are, if I take it apart I’ll never get it back together.

What do you remove at 2:08 and how do you remove it? I've got a stubborn one on my band saw and can't for the life of me get it off!
@northchaser51633 жыл бұрын
They're called "circlips" or "snap rings". They fit into recesses on shafts or holes. Often used to keep bearings in place. You need a set of Snap Ring Pliers to remove them typically.

@northchaser51634 жыл бұрын
I haven't tried it, but provided the guard permits I imagine it could be possible. But don't quote me on that. If it is possible you'd have to feed slow to avoid pushing the saw too hard. There's probably power calculations out there to help figure this out.

@douglashaner68024 жыл бұрын
I have a similar model, my table is smooth and not grooved. The issue I need help with is, I bought it used for 20 or 25 dollars. It is complete except it is missing the blade guard. I can't find a site to buy this piece. I found a universal one but at 100 dollars that is a deal breaker. Do you or anyone have a site they use? Ebay is a bust thus far.
@bobnicholas59944 жыл бұрын
This will be no help but..these saws come up for sale for $20 like you said. You could buy another and part it out. Sell what you dont use on ebay recoup cost for both and get the guard.

I have this saw. It wobbles like mad, the blade moves front to back. The lower wheel noticeably oscillates which probably explains this. I’ve taken the wheel off and put back on. The wheel itself appears straight but I can’t tell. It seems it is more likely with the connection to the axel. Or maybe I have it backwards.

What is he doing at 14:54
@northchaser51634 жыл бұрын
The bearings that hold the shaft that drive the lower wheel sit in a pocket in the casting and were originally retained with a set of bolts. The old bolts' heads stripped so I got new ones. The heads on the new ones didn't quite reach the outer edge of the bearings so I added washers to help them retain them.
