3:36 I screamed! I am living in a 1950's house and the perception of my neighbours are that I live in an "old" house, even when I have natural materials like wood, glass & stone, etc. and they have just artificial plastic, but hey ho. As that guy has said "the modern part of the house was build at Elizabeth I time", I had to celebrate him!!!!

Tudor pottage (vegetable stew) recipe: 1. chop a cup of: turnip, onion, parsnip, carrots, pepper, 2. add a cup of pearl barley (or oats) & cook for 10 min 3. add chopped leak, cabbage, mushrooms, herbs (rosemary) and cook for 10-15 minutes

This may sound silly, but I don't know how Julie didn't dance with joy when she walked into the kitchen. I would have been so ecstatic, I probably would have jumped and dance with glee. It is so remarkable. The chef working in the kitchen was superb. I can imagine the fresh smells coming from the herbs she was cutting.

That Tudor kitchen is absolutely fascinating. I can actually picture cook's from that period, cooking for the family. It would be wonderful if this kitchen could be preserved as the treasure of history it is. Of course some modern touches are necessary; however, hopefully without removing historical details. The Tudor stew looks scrumptious. Especially knowing its ingredients were locally sourced.

Thrilled to see Athelhampton! Time to Time with Maggie Smith was filmed there. I always wondered how much was actually depicted in the film. The great hall definitely was. Time to Time was based on a LM Boston book. Her house is one of the UK's oldest Norman houses - Hemingford Grey. It might be a good house for you to visit with your program.

Spectacular kitchen! I remember seeing a fireplace like that one as a child and always wanted one in my kitchen. Could you have Giles send his peeps to Michigan to see if there’s one hiding in my wall too? 😂 All that handiwork throughout the house. Astonishing to think how much collective expertise went into a single room, not to mention an entire estate!

I loved watching this , it is fantastic to see the care , detail and history of this kitchen intact , in new ways. I liked the feature of serving windows one for in and one for out to assist in decreasing any sort of kitchen confusion . To add the side cooking area with with the illusion of how they would have cooked for so many peoples and needing many pots , I imagine .

I googled Keating before watching this episode so I know the "surprise" and I won't spoil it. Suffice it to say he found a way to eliminate heating and gas bills of 50,000 pounds per year (and more at today's prices). Also, I was wondering why he didn't buy the previous owner's furniture which was sold at auction but now I see why. I love the way he has decorated it.

In my 20s I worked midnights (12-8am) and never wanted to miss a daytime English series (I'm in Barrie, Ontario, Canada) of an older woman, with a sweetheart young assistant, that recreated the authentic gardening, cooking and presentation of aristocratic meals in some English castle (I think always the same castle). It was so good but have never seen it replayed. I think it would be very popular now. There was a more recent similar series of two women who road motor bikes going to different locations which was good but not nearly as good as the former. Athelhampton looks like an amazing place though I think the kitchen is not really too authentic looking (may not be the intent). It's a beautiful kitchen but would likely (I think definitely) have barrels and bins of cooking ingredients around with tools and pots and pans and cauldrons etc. as a real working kitchen.
