Episode 25 - In this week's vlog about the narrowboat restoration, Nesha starts the first of the big interior projects: cladding the ceiling and walls of the entryway! We also get a pretty nasty leak above our freshly installed diesel heater. :(

Do try to get some sealant on the seam that was leaking, if you don't plan to have it welded closed soon.

Nesha for someone who thinks she can't your doing really well and starting to look like an old hand at using the power tools. Remembering always they can and do easily bite, so don't get to tried and plenty of sit down tea breaks. Fun watching your meetings, but worrying when you start answering back, ha ha, but your right, sit and work it out and chat it through before you do. Give some thought to the wiring before you get to far in front of it and give yourself problems later. Your diesel heater itself gives out a load of safe heat so maybe think of boxing it in, leaving a take off panel should you need it. With air from inside your cabin into the back end of the boxing with air tubing a small quiet fan on the front end through the cabin wall such as a 12v x 2"/ 3" / 4" replacement box type computer fan, or a small inline fan the same size as your ducting both can be found online. blowing back into your cabin as well as the ducted air out of the heater inlet and outlet. Two reasons, one, not to waste the heat as there is little point keeping the sky warm, as it will be enough to keep your clothes warm in an airing cupboard / hanging wardrobe, if you have one at the back end, and the other maybe to stop added condensation in your engine bay, hot heater x cold outside air temperature in a closed /cold engine bay = condensation so lag as much of the air ducting to and from your cabin that you can. Looks like your doing great and even now starting to confidently enjoying yourself. Well impressed, so crack on. By the way your ears are made for standard pencils to fit (little ears? cut the pencil in half) and so is the rim of your hat, or under your watch strap.

You are living proof that when people say that they can't do these types of jobs, it isn't expertise in short supply it's actually inclination. Everyone who does these jobs started at some point with the same lack of knowledge, they weren't born with the ability, they learned it in exactly the same way you are now.

Are you still planning on opening these cupboards from above? Cause then you need to make cuts on the sides& add hinges. Right now the sides stick over the base (where the grease was) & there is no way to open it the way you opened it at the beginning of your video. Just an fyi. Now if its just a shelf board then never mind. If you put anything in front of those windows to close em off .. they prob still sweat& then mold forms eventually. Also if you cut the board wrong, have the tight end in the back (turn the board around). Its easier to work from the front & fix it with an off cut or a piece of wood then in a back corner.

Not sure! In the original build these corner areas of the bay were accessed by sliding out the side pieces by the steps, so that everything in the cupboards didn’t have to be moved out

I commend you for your fantastic work as a joiner. You don't see many women joiners, as you are the first one I've seen tackling timber installation on a narrowboat, fabulous. Keep on going, your doing great guns. As you found out, any jobs onboard takes way way way longer than normal. That's totally normal. Take your time, it's your liveaboard narrowboat home. Your partner should be ecstatic with your efforts. I know I would be. Keep going. 👍

@mike-driftwoodfolk2651
@mike-driftwoodfolk2651 Жыл бұрын
I have many routers 😅 I would do that but the time it takes to either get boards like it or do it would be too long really. Plus I think it would be too modern & plush & we aren't that way inclined haha possible be bits of beading throughout tho once finished

@mike-driftwoodfolk2651

@@YaaLFH tbh in a small space with the rails it's not actually that much easier by the time you've set it all up .... But it is a nice cut definitely. Before I had battery tools or even the track saw I use to rip things down with a panel saw and a planer to finish off 😅 which ever way it gets done it gets done and i know i can make it a nice finish.

@mike-driftwoodfolk2651 Жыл бұрын
Would of loved to but by the time you change all the items to pass the BSS it ends up costing way way too much. Plus after doing lots of research they are essentially they same & with the added parts would last a similar amount of time. Appreciate your comment tho. We would of loved radiators but due to it being a very small boat we have no wall space so have no where to fit them 😅

Thanks for your comment 😊 ive looked into them and the air ones are essentially the exact same. Especially if you swap some parts over. We didn't go radiators as we actually don't have anywhere to put them ... As its a small boat we have used every wall and bit of space for storage. So couldn't even fit them if we had that 😅😂. We've got a good log burner that im renovating and then for added heat we have the air heater so we have 2 sources of heat. Plus double glazed windows to keep the heat in 💪🏽

Hi there ,you doing well but take a couple of hints from a couple who lived and worked on the canal system for 15 years ,we built two boats ,do not buy a washing machine ,you will need pure sinewave inverter ,not cheap, and the washing machine uses two of the things you fo nit have a lot of ,electricity and water ,then you have to dry them.Have two weeks of clothes and find a launderette, much easier
@DriftwoodFolk
@DriftwoodFolk Жыл бұрын
Our washing machine is going to be a portable one as we can’t fit a regular one on board. We already have an inverter though, just isn’t installed yet!
@mike-driftwoodfolk2651
@mike-driftwoodfolk2651 Жыл бұрын
Thanks for the knowledge it is always appreciated haha... We have a pure sine wave inverter and have calculated enough electric (I hope😅). And as Nesha said we will be having only a large portable one for doing clothes. Then we will hunt laundrettes out for sheets and things.
