That turned out beautiful. But what is a founders piece?

Founders is the brand or furniture maker. 🧡

The holidays had me behind with watching! I saw the veneer and I was like, "No, it's not cigarette burns, it's PECAN!!!" Whoo hoo!!! This was very cool to see! I love walnut, but I grew up around pecan. ❤❤❤ I like that you went with darker stain and toner, it makes it more modern, while still seeing those interesting pecks!!!

Thank you for sharing! I thInk I have a pair of side tables that are pecan as well. That will be a project for this year!

There was a few Bradford furniture stores in Massachusetts a few years back. I bought quite a bit of furniture from them 20 or more years ago.

@@ReconstructingEmily I don't see anything other than the brand name but I'd have to take everything out of the drawers to look. It could be that your piece is older than my furniture which is probably from the late 80s

I instantly knew that the marks were not burns... and it was simply that I saw the mirrored pattern. Still thought it was worm damage from before the veneer was cut. 🤷🏼♀️ So, I learned something new! 😁 Lovely resto!

Another beautiful transformation. Luckily it was in decent condition, so no major overhauls were required. I haven't refinished furniture in a long time, but I always used conditioning treatment before staining. It makes the wood accept the stain more readily, without blotches or streaks. I've never been a fan of shellac, it always leaves a brassy yellow tone to the piece. I know some people may like this, but I prefer a more mellow look.
@ReconstructingEmily Жыл бұрын
I've found with some stains, like gel stain on certain woods the wood conditioner doesn't make much of a difference. I don't usually get a ton of streaking but I'm in a humid environment most of the time so that could be why. Your feelings on shellac are interesting! I've not had much issue with it using the 'clear' labeled can. I know I used a different brand before and had a very Yellow piece. Like 'try again' yellow hah. Thank you for sharing JP! Hope you have a great New Years!

Love General Finishes products, so cool to see them used in a video. This was a beautiful restoration-simple and kept the integrity of the piece. Thanks for sharing about the pecan, had never heard of this characteristic before and always enjoy learning new info about the many quirks of the wood universe. Subscribed!

That’s lovely. I do not know what designers were going for with the black splatter finish, especially on pecan pieces. I truly hate it. It looks dirty, like fly poop.🤢🤮 The new finish you gave this very large piece is much more attractive. And what a lovely gift for your friends! Happy New Year, Emily.🌸🥂🎉🌸
