Wow! My wife has that exact same trunk that was her grandmother’s. I have several carpenter’s tools that belonged to her grandfather. Her trunk still has the tray. The front is angled in to allow for clearance when closing the lid.

Great looking trunk. It cleaned up nicely. I think I would have sprayed it with a coat of shellac. That would seal the metal from possible rust.

Does this trunk have wood all over exterior or is there a ‘fiber’ overlay? It resembles a trunk I have from my Grandmother. It is not covered in leather, it is another material I’ve seen called fiber or leatheroid. Did you oil it ?
