The cheat I’ve used for years on getting a 2600 to work on any tv with a cable input….. the NES tv cable that screws into the cable in on a tv. It fits right on the Atari board and works a lot better and usually cheaper than anything else you can do

I am still so afraid to get water anywhere near my old electronics. I still don't know how this doesn't short anything out. I've even heard of ppl just throwing their boards into the washing machine with no issue. Can someone explain how this doesn't destroy electronics?

It would be awesome if you paint the Atari with the blackest black paint. The brand coloring will look insane with that type of background color.

It would be far better if you don't paint it, just use some of that car trim restorer.

@@nothere4089 well you definitely want to make sure it's as clean as you can get it before you do anything like that (which he clearly didn't do in the video) which is why it looked as faded as it did. You clean it very well, do this multiple times and rinse after every time and inspect to make sure you got everything (it's also best to pop the switch panel off the top case before you start cleaning, they pop out), you don't want to polish it as polishing it would wear down the textured surface, and you definitely do not want to paint the case.

Great video! Only thing I'll say that could be an issue is those AV wires are needlessly long & could promote interference. I've ran into this very problem when doing both composite & S-Video mods on the Jr. I'll be surprised if there's no interference in that Composite signal.

I could be wrong, but It looks like the small capacitor you replaced on the left side of the board got put in backwards. Just curious if that is actually the case.
@Rob_M_Jr2 жыл бұрын
@madmax2069 watch it again, the board is clearly marked with a "+" and the negative stripe is on that side. All of the rest of the small cap locations have the same mark on the board for positive, and are positioned correctly.

I know it's a simple console and shouldn't generate so much heat, but painting a metal plate that acts on statistical protection and heat dissipation doesn't make it lose efficiency.
@MikeL-FL2 жыл бұрын
The proper thing to do would have been to nickel plate them. He didn’t seem to care much about this console though. Even when he was tearing it down he wasn’t being careful or anything. The way he bent the ribbon cable for the switches made me cringe.
@madmax20692 жыл бұрын
That's only an RF shield, it does nothing to dissipate heat, those chips don't get hot enough, plus the chips would need to be in direct contact with it to be able to dissipate heat. And painting the RF shield really doesn't harm its capabilities of RF rejection.
@madmax20692 жыл бұрын
@@nothere4089 yes you can really do that, many people that repair electronics do wash the board, especially if it's really sticky and dirty (although they use distilled water due to its lack of minerals in the water). As long as the board has no power going through it you can dunk it into water (I do use tap water, I just make sure to brush everything off when I apply IPA which dislodges most of the minerals that in the tap water), and use IPA to displace any left over water so that it dries faster, or you can use a heat gun.
