😂 love the bit about the wire nuts. I was just replacing two wire nuts on my homemade AC system today with proper GM-style connectors but also thinking, "these wire nuts would have done fine for years, I bet." Especially with some dielectric grease in there. I was trying to imagine what my late stepfather would have said. He was a skilled trades electrician in Detroit automotive manufacturing as well as a wrencher with a perfect Grand National. He loved wire nuts, but I can't recall if he ever specified if that extended to automotive environment. He was a stickler about electrical work but he also leaned heavily toward a "f-- what they think" position in situations, so I think he would have approved. I've got a wire nut one a big wire under my dash, close to the asshole fuse box that requires all sorts of abuse just to reach anything. Been there for 12 years. Still tight, still clean.

Amazing videos! I have a 1987 Chevy V10. It over heated and blew a hose 40 miles after purchasing it. Fixed it on the side of the road. The it died for good 5 miles later. Here's my problem....I swapped the 305tbi for a 78 carbed 350. Got it all back together and it starts and runs. However, the alternator makes a really bad noise when it's hooked to the pos battery and also, the neg. battery post gets really hot. When I disconnect the pos lead to the alt. the noise goes away and the neg doesn't get hot. It may be a little warm. But obviously it's not charging the battery. The alternator is good, and I just changed the pig tail to the alt (after watching your video) and saw how wasted the connector was. I was hopeful that the corroded pigtail was the issue. Nope! Everything has good grounds and I thought I had the wiring right, but I'm not the wiring GOD that you are! What do you think the problem could be? Thanks for posting all of you videos and any help that you can give me.

the only time they do that is from a bad connection .. you have to use test wires for big cables sometimes. Just because they look good from the outside you can’t see the condition on the inside of the big cables. I would just replace both to eliminate that possible issue instantly

@@chriscraft77022 Thanks. I took those off and they look like they aren't in the best shape. So, I will replace those. While checking those I started finding other questionable wires. And the previous owners taped the bejesus out of them. After cutting it loose, I started chasing and separating the old tbi wires from the tangled mess. I also found that the wiring harness on driver's side firewall is melted on the right side of the box. I'm not sure what under the dash looks like. I do know it has trailer brakes, etc. So, it looks like I need to watch the hell out of this video several times and try to wire my 87 just like my 85. Thanks again for the help and killer repair vids.

@chriscraft77022 I'm just trying to figure out the wiring on the alternator. It has a "plug" to which is wired back to the alternator but there's a white wire and a thin black wire..I'm stuck on where those go. And trying to do this on my own bc the ex screwed it up b4 he left.
