In this video, I'm taking this really damaged and musty smelling chest of drawers and doing what I can to keep this out of the landfill. There are still some areas that bug me (as a perfectionist) but overall, I'm shocked I was able to bring this back as much as I was.

My main mission in my business is to keep things out of the trash. Sometimes that means working on busted antiques and sometimes it means particle board crap. Lol A lot of it still has decades of use left. If I can take something and modify it to be more desirable, it will get used, at least for a time. But in the meantime, hopefully that transformation will inspire other people to do the same. There are many amazing modern craftspeople doing phenomenal work. And I’m not saying I’d never try it… but my efforts are focussed elsewhere purposely. Hope that makes sense. 😊 I do plan to build bunny beds though!

Wow! When you said butternut, I thought squash.🤣 The hubby said he had heard of it but didn’t know much about it. I love this piece. You always see the beauty beneath the rough condition. Doing the dark top totally works for this piece. It makes the lighter drawer structure stand out more. The top drawer’s darker hues create a smooth transition from the top to it and then that center panel of the middle drawer pulls the lighter hues into the overall look. Totally amazing as always. ❤❤❤

So beautiful!!! It’s a lot of work mitigating the odors as you do, and to me, ESSENTIAL work that needs to be undertaken to keep the item usable!! And safe for use inside the home! The smells aren’t just a nuisance: they reflect an issue with mold or 3rd hand smoke, etc. But I digress. Awesome work, Angie!!! It’s so beautiful. The handles and the contrasting wood. I wonder if that was the original top for that piece. It looks slightly too small, with no overhanging lip. Also, the veneer on the top drawer is so different from the other two (and so not-special) that it seems possible that someone replaced new walnut veneer after damage, sometime in the past. I'm glad the drawer pulls survived, they're very unusual. Either way, you've given it back its dignity and a new life.

I do a lot of full restorations but sometimes a bit of paint on lesser quality wood (and especially plastic laminate coated wood, or Formica) can keep something structurally sound from being tossed just because it’s a bit rough or dated cosmetically. But I like to restore certain woods whenever possible. 🙂

I think your comfort zone has just had a reset 🤣 The butternut/walnut woods and their respective colors are really well done and entirely appropriate for this piece. Great job Angie! You took on another "pile" and created a real work of art and restoration out of a smelly, sad discombobulated mess. Excellent!

Please never stop talking about odors and how to get rid of them! I have allergies and asthma and certain smells trigger migraines! I let an absolutely beautiful piece go because its previous owner wore perfume and I could not get rid of the smell. If I had known some of your tricks back then! I adored the little stepped detail at the bottom of this dresser and your decisions on stain and finishing were perfect as always! I love watching you work your magic!

I know nothing about woodworking or refinishing. All I do is paint a few pieces of furniture for my own home, and I happened on your channel quite some time ago searching for videos to help me with that. Usually, when a video is showing a process that I know I could never accomplish, I just quit watching, but I'm always mesmerized by your work, your knowledge, your everything--and I always watch all the way to the end. You put sooooo much work into this piece that I really wish I knew how much you sell it for.
@TranscendFurnitureGallery
@TranscendFurnitureGallery Ай бұрын
I actually list everything I sell on my instagram and FB page, but usually remove the prices once they do sell. Pricing varies wildly from town to town, across provinces, and country to country (not to mention exchange rates), and there's no real average price because of the condition of the pieces, and sometimes even how quickly I need to sell something. For those reasons, I don't normally mention in these videos what the sale prices are, but if you're following the instagram/fb pages, you can actually see the for sale posts come up with the selling prices (until they sell, that is). 😊

Ange, WOW! 😮 What a transformation. The light trim is absolutely the right choice. It beautifully highlights the natural contrasts between the woods. Definitely right choice making the top trim dark. It anchors the top so well and I think if it were light it would pull away the eye from the beauty of the draw fronts and side.
