CHRIS, Bilt Hamber Deox-c powder is brilliant for de-rusting stuff, put whatever you want to clean put in a tub with a lid sprinkle Deox-C over the items then fill tub with boiling water completely covering the items put lid on leave over night. next morning you will have perfectly rust free items, rinse off to get the film off then pour away the water (Deox-C is biodegradable).

Chris, get yourself a tub of Bilt Hamber Deox-C. It restores rusty bolts etc to bright steel in 24 hours, and you can use it time and time again. Way better than any of the liquids you tried and less hassle than electrolysis.

Great video Chris and you sure do make a great presenter. I for one cant wait to see how well the R8 turns out. One word of caution though be mindful of using electrolysis in a non-ventilated environment as the proces can give of very harmfull toxic gasses and you do need to mention this in your videos.

I use citric acid powder in water for rust removal on bikes and bike rims - its similar to the old Cola method, but its better/higher concentration and easier than the electrolysis method. The powder is about a fiver off ebay for a kilo - lasts ages. 24hr soak and rust washes off with a nail brush and soapy water - to neutralise the acid

Silver wheels also look better after one days driving! On my Porsche 997 I had my wheels painted black with a polished rim, which I found great. However, only after a drive around the block they look dirty again. On silver wheels this is much better and you don’t have to clean the wheels every time you come home!

Double strength white vinegar, or even molasses, will work extremely well at removing heavy rust on mild steel easily and cheaply. The only downside is that takes a decent bit of time to work properly. I usually leave my pieces in a plastic tub with a cover (to prevent evaporation & check on the pieces every few days. Usually 3-4 days is enough for most brackets, with a week or two for heavily rusted bits. After they come out of the tub, they usually only need a rinse & light scrub with water & the piece looks like new. Then just deoxidise the part & it’s ready for primer/paint. This does not work on any metal castings though, and it will destroy them completely in only a few days.

Unbelievable that someone treated such a special car (and in such a rare colour) so poorly. I'm glad you are returning it to stock (and I agree the wheels look so much better in silver). One comment though; when you put the anti roll bar back on, I think the frame underneath where it attaches looks a little corroded. And there are a variety of bolts underneath that are still rusty. Don't get me wrong, you've made great progress, but its the little details that will produce the overall greatest result.
