I wonder if you would consider making a start to finish and/or series with essential segments of your boat building process?

I have kind of started with the series on 1940 25' Sportsman. I will most likely do a whole start to finish on restoration but probably not till I retire if that ever happens. That was my plan from the beginning till I found out how time consuming the process is. It takes about an hour for every minute of video you see.

No, the construction of the boat is strong enough as it is. We have beefed up stringers for larger engines.

Great craftmanship. Do you use planking versus marine grade plywood on the inner bottom based upon what came of the original bottom? Also is the decision to use Sikkens on some of the interior cabin parts preferred to stain and Captains varnish (or equivalent) based on location? Kind Regards, Craig

Good eye! Yes we use playwood only if the boat came that way from the factory. Chris Craft switch to plywood inner bottom about 1956. The sikkens was for pieces on my boat. Some where real teak and some where mahogany. I used the sikkens like stain and applied 2 coats of sikkens to the mahogany so it would match the color of teak when it was varnished. It works very well.

Mike, I’m near the same point with my 48’ U18 as you guys are. Thank you for saying stain all together I was going to do the ceiling boards separate. How many coats of varnish for interior? I’ve been told 4-5 is plenty. How many do you guys do? Also do you varnish over the oval head screws and seal them in or is there a different process? As always, great content!

We put on about 15 to 18 coats on interior parts. They put on 4-5 coats from the factory but that won't last in the sun very long. We do not varnish over screws
