Love seeing these old radios working, there is a certain charm to the sound between the static and the hum of the components.

See how that radio has two spots for civil defense broadcasts. Old school cold war stuff right there.

The color of the dash pad screams 50's! I am glad you saved it as it looks cool. Having a tube radio in this car will also keep the 50's vibe alive. It is looking very good.

Right choice on OG dash, color is complimentary and nice fit. What, no rear speaker and reverb on that AM radio?? :) Look forward to seeing the final pieces and interior come together. Hope the weekly schedule brings more subs to the channel. You certainly deserve a zero to the left of the decimal.

The wire I trimmed off was for the rear speaker... oops! Haha. Don't need it as a high tech music making device is being installed. Cheers!

Says a lot about the quality of the materials used all those years ago, especially if the car has been properly stored! good job as usual!

We pulled this 56 out of the bush behind the previous owner's barn. Missing 2 doors and only a tarp as covering. Even the seats were intact. Amazing material quality. In case you haven't seen it, check out the first episode.

Hey Nick, I love that dash pad, adds a bit of nostalgia to the car! Definitely leave the teal colour! Glad you were able to get the radio working somewhat, the am signals aren’t the greatest anyways but will certainly look awesome in the dash! Thanks for the video and have a great weekend!

Nothing much on the AM band now days. But like you mentioned, its a bit of nostalgia, takes me back to my childhood and looks great in the car. I appreciate your support!!

Hi Nick, great build! About the radio, some folks mentioned already to replace the electrolytic capacitors (Panasonic capacitors are very good), but also clean the contacts of the tubes with contact cleaner. You can also clean the contacts of the switches with contact cleaner. Due to age (time) there is a posibility of slight corrosion on the contacts. If posible replace the tubes by new ones. NOS tubes are very expensive today, but new tubes are still made. Good luck!

If you have a tube tester like you mentioned you should check the tubes anyway to make sure they test within range and replace the capacitors regardless of how they look, it will perform much better.

I would of never changed the color of the dash pad, and the fact it survived is a proof of better materials used then ... than we use today. Well lets say from the last of the eighties to say two thousand era of rigs as they cheapened up their products to stay in business. A dash then would stop just about anything human from going further... Jay Leno said, your head gave, not the dash. Electrical cleaner on contacts.... a bit of air pressure to knock out more debris and your old radio will dazzle some young lady to give the boy a kiss.

Leaving the turquoise dash pad and having the rest of the interior black won’t look out of place if you add something as subtle as color matched floor mats over the black carpet or having some paint mixed to match the turquoise for some sort of accent for the center console. Adding a. Splash of the turquoise color on the interior tastefully would make it look intentionally designed and not allow the dash to say hello I’m different lol. I just found your channel and this is the first video I’ve watched. Just thought I would throw my two cents in lol. I’ll be watching more.

I've been sitting here yelling at the screen ... I was worried you were going to take the color off that vinyl with that solvent ... doesn't take a lot to remove it ... also you were using the solvent to clean your hands ... big no no ... I'm with ya on the keeping the original color ... nothin says Mopar like turquoise ... I still have a few of those tube radios myself ... commin together ...
