Thank you! The spray was some clear lacquer just to slow down future rust.

I’m so happy you shared this process! I have a similar situation to the previous comment (non-standard drain size) and can’t find a replacement. I just had the concrete floors refinished and the rusty old strainers look extra bad now. I’ll be trying a simplified version of this with the most visible one. How has yours held up with that spray enamel?

You need a n95 mask or respirator for throwing off all that rust particulates, like a Chinese worker polishing stainless steel on an iPhone making $2/hour.
